As part of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School football and track teams, Flournoy has demonstrated athleticism since his childhood. He enrolled in a Division II school, Central Missouri, and redshirted his first year in 2018. His injury continued to bother him in his sophomore year, when he posted 17 receptions for 170 yards upon returning, while dealing with a partially torn ACL.

Ryan Flournoy did not play football in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and transferred to Iowa Western Community College in 2021. Flournoy showed his true potential at Iowa, where he became the team’s top receiver. He recorded 32 receptions for 545 yards and five touchdowns, leading his team to the NJCAA national championship.
After his excellent performance, he received an offer to play for Division I FCS Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. He accepted the offer and moved to the Redhawks in 2022. Captaining his team in his first year, Flournoy recorded 61 catches for 984 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022. Furthermore, he was also chosen for the first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference.
He suffered a hand injury in his senior year, recording 57 catches for 839 yards and six touchdowns. Despite his injury, Flournoy was named in The Athletic’s college football “Freaks List” entering the year. After graduating from Southern Missouri State, Ryan Flournoy was invited to the Hula Bowl, the East–West Shrine Bowl, the 2024 Senior Bowl, and the NFL Scouting Combine.

In his first season at the Cowboys, he recorded 10 receptions for 102 scoreless yards in 11 appearances. The team waived him in August but later re-signed him to the practice squad. Furthermore, some strong performances earned him a spot back on the active roster. Flournoy recorded a career-high 114 yards in Week 5 against the New York Jets.
