Although the on-field result on Sunday wasn’t something the birthday boy hoped for, as they lost to the Carolina Panthers in a 30-27 contest, affection for the legendary owner flowed in all directions, particularly from his daughter, Charlotte Jones.

Jones’ 83rd birthday came with a reminder of the legacy that he has established — on and off the field.

Billionaire owner Jones and his wife Eugenia have three kids, Stephen, Charlotte, and Jerry Jr. All of them have key roles within the Cowboys organization. Their professional lives have been closely associated with the company since Jerry’s courageous move to buy out the team in 1989.

That decision, a $140 million bet in its time, changed the course of football history.

Under his leadership, the Cowboys rose from financial hardship to become one of the world’s most valuable sports teams, valued at over $9 billion today. And while the search for another Super Bowl has been fruitless since the 1990s, Jerry’s passion for the game and the team has never wavered.

Fans weren’t behind as they leaped into the love and laughter

The post soon gained thousands of likes and comments from the Cowboys’ die-hard fans from around the world through genrations.

”Love these pics! Happy Birthday Jerry💙” A warm but brief message, this one repeated the heartiness of Charlotte’s post, fans soaking in the beloved family memories. It showed their respect for the man who has adorned the face of the franchise for over three decades.

Another fan wrote, “Beautiful family… beautiful memories… happy birthday wishes to a friend we all care about and cherish!!🎂👏🏻🏈‼” For some, he’s not only a team owner but one who embodies loyalty, toughness, and a sense of community based around Cowboys football.

Some went all out, writing, “Happy and healthy birthday , pls tell him we need a new DC 😢” The demand for “a new DC” (defensive coordinator) expressed the ire of a fan base that is still smarting from the most recent record, an almost winnable game against Carolina, lost in the final moments.

Then, one fan related Jerry Jones’ day with their own. ”Happy Birthday to your dad. I’m a HUGE Cowboy fan and I share the same birthday!🎉” Each comment, while varying in tone, rang with the ambivalent but profound loyalty Cowboys fans have for their team’s owner.

The Cowboys’ defense, once viewed as a team strength, has been panned since giving up big yards and being unreliable in big spots. Yet, at the same time, the deluge of good words reaffirmed the respect Jerry Jones commands for what he’s created. A sports franchise that goes beyond wins and losses.

Under his ownership, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls. However, there is a drought from the 90s that the Cowboys fans desperately want to end. Off the field, though, Jones reformed the league’s business model, pressing with huge television contracts and establishing the NFL as the financial giant that it is now.

As the Cowboys head into Week 7 to face the Commanders, the sentiment on Charlotte’s post is as much of a celebration as remembrance. Meanwhile, at 83, Jerry Jones continues to live each week with as much energy as he began 36 years ago.
