Being a kid is fun. Roaming around in the sun or cooped up with snacks, playing your favorite games. Even just lazing around watching TV, hanging out with school friends. Childhood’s a bliss. But for parents, it can be a whole different matter altogether. Imagine being pranked by your own kid and having to explain it to the authorities and teachers. That was the reality for Ed and Donna Kelce back when they were together, raising the future football stars Jason Kelce (former Eagles center) and Travis Kelce (Chiefs TE).
Jason, being the older brother, was always a bit more mature regarding certain things. But Travis? He was a merry little prankster. Donna Kelce even shared a story on the New Heights podcast from when Travis was just 3 years old. Donna said, “you used to run around the house with this towel over you and this chip clip. Okay.” Cute, huh? Maybe Travis was pretending to be Superman. But wait, here’s where it gets interesting. Donna continued, “And so the chip clip, you know, cut your neck right there. And so we went into preschool – they asked you how’d that happen and you told everyone that it was your father and that he cut you with a knife.” That’s Travis Kelce, 3 years old, throwing his dad under the bus and causing trouble like a legend.
On the same podcast, Travis and Jason talked about their childhood with their mother, Donna Kelce. That’s where these gems of stories came out. According to Travis, he liked to “manipulate things a little bit. See how the things are going to play out.” On the podcast, they show an older clip where they called their father, looking for some advice. They even attempted to prepare the listeners for what’s coming. “He grew up in a different day and age. We have no idea what’s going to come out of his mouth.” The question went, “What would Ed Kelsey’s reaction [be] to Travis out in public telling some stranger that you stole him?” And Ed Kelsey, the no-nonsense dad, didn’t even wait a second before dropping the bomb. “What would my reaction be? – Yeah. Shut the F— up.” Yep, Ed Kelce doesn’t have any time for these pranks.

Immediately after the call, Ed doubled down by calling again. While the question was actually for one of their listeners, Ed imagined the scenario in his head and said, “Travis is the one that would have tried to pull that off.” Later, Travis tried to save some face by asking Donna who could have attempted this prank, Jason or himself. Donna’s answer? “It would have been you.” That’s the reputation Travis Kelce has with his parents. We know these two hotshot players for their skills on the gridiron and their hot takes on the podcast. Now, through Donna, they gave us a peek into the Kelce household when they were growing up. As Mother’s Day looms just around the corner, what could be a better tribute?

Jason and Travis Kelce’s tribute for Mother’s Day
The episode ‘Donna Kelce on Sibling Friendships, Young Love and What Moms Really Want for Mother’s Day’ is simply legendary. It is rare to turn back time and relive our favorite stars’ childhood with them. And that’s exactly what this episode offers. It is Travis and Jason’s tribute to their mother, who has been a pillar of support (and tolerance) for them. And the stories Donna has to share could fill literal books. They’d sell like hot cakes, too. Jason and Travis used to get lost all the time. Jason, just because. And Travis, because he wanted to escape. Talking about their girlfriends, she even dropped a bomb that Jason “didn’t really bring a lot of ladies home.”

On the podcast, they also asked Donna, “What do moms really want on Mother’s Day?”And Donna’s simple answer drives straight to the heart. “They want to be with their children, which doesn’t happen often – when they’re older. That’s basically it. It’s time.” So, people, if your parents are around, listen to Donna, and spend some quality time with them this Sunday. Travis also skillfully gets some ideas for gifts by confirming if Donna likes flowers. And Donna listed out a few more things, like pistachios and macarons. With Travis’s clever schemes, it looks like the gifts this year are sorted.
As we wait for the new season to start, these moments drive home the little things that matter the most. Being together with family, and remembering simpler, fun times. As this offseason continues, we will keep looking forward to more treasures like this from Donna Kelce’s “Peter Pan’s lost boys.”
