Dak Prescott has been with the Dallas Cowboys for 8 years now and has a 2-5 playoff record. As of this year, the Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones decided to let things play out and didn’t give Dak Prescott a long-term extension despite his contract coming to an end next year. Hence, this is the QB’s last year with the Dallas team. If he leaves the side in 2025, the Cowboys will carry a massive $60 million cap hit.

For now, Prescott is preparing for the season to start and will focus on negotiating a deal later. He recently appeared in a presser and gave answers to the questions that every Cowboys fan is asking currently. And amidst updating his current status with the side, he also appeared to clarify on not having any lack of communication with his team owner.

The reporter asked Prescott, “Would you like your deal done by the start of the season?” Prescott waited a bit before he gave a diplomatic answer. He said that he’s “focused on now,” and would later think about what is coming ahead. The QB said that he will deal with it when the time comes, but he’s focused on doing well for the side this season. The 3x Pro Bowler also mentioned that he’ll leave the negotiations to his agent and the Cowboys owner to discuss.

Prescott and Jerry Jones mutually agree on “focusing on now” and talking negotiations later, per the QB. A reporter tried to push Prescott on the deep cap implications should the QB have to leave the Dallas team. The correspondent wanted to know why the Cowboys were not doing anything about the contract.

“We had a great conversation that put us aligned, and, and where we are and moving forward, and where we are at this moment I should say, and uh, we’ll address moving forward as that comes about,” mentioned Prescott while being cryptic, rephrasing his previous words once again. While his comment indicated being in conversation with Jones, his body language did not seem as optimistic toward an extension of a contract.

But in the recent past, the Cowboys owner mentioned his desire to go “all in” for the side along with the QB. Yet, with no update unfolding, it seems that the words apparently have a different meaning in Jones’ psyche.

What does Jones mean by “all-in?”

Michael Gehlken quoted Jerry Jones answering that question. “Your definition of what is all in and mine might not be the same thing, but I’m trying to win the games this year with my decision. So I’m all into this year,” said the Cowboys reporter’s post on X. Jones will sit there and let the drafts play out it seems before deciding how things look for the Cowboys.

Jones added to his previous statement, remarking, “I’ve drafted quarterbacks for the future, OK. I would be reluctant to do that this year. That’s an example: Use our first pick for a quarterback this year, for the future if you have an opportunity there. You are at 24 and the greatest thing, he’s sitting there. I’d be reluctant to do that this year. That’s called all in this year.”

Plus, before giving a deal to Prescott, Jones has to worry about Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb as well because they are facing the same contractual issues. Whatever happens between Prescott and the Cowboys, one thing is for sure, Prescott’s stocks will be up next year and there will always be quarterback-needy teams.
