Dan Quinn Demands a ‘Relentless Dog’ as Washington Commanders’ Next QB Amid Jayden Daniels & Drake Maye Decision

It was on Feb. 7 that Dan Quinn was interviewed by the Washington Commanders. They had discussed his leadership traits and willingness to learn from failures. And now it is time he delivers what he promised! After a turbulent last season, the team will have a new look and that starts with their QB.
Quin recently attended the LSU Pro Day. The most sought-after Caleb Williams is reported to be the final choice for the Chicago Bears, who possess the overall first pick! So, the 53-year-old Commanders’ coach had his eyes on several players, but with them having the overall second pick in the upcoming draft, they have a big decision to make. So what qualities does Quinn want in his QB?
In a conversation with ‘WUSA9’, he shared, “I think number one, just a relentless dog competitor, and that has to be at the top of the list because to play this position, there’s going to be high, there’s going to be lows. You better have resilience. You better be able to really lock in when it gets really hard because that’s going to happen.”

“And so you don’t find that at a pro day, you find that on the tape and what they’re made of and the things that are important to them. So I would say, at the top of it, man, elite competitor.”
So, which of the most sought-after QBs fits the mold perfectly for the Commanders? Well, the answer boils down to two potential options: Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye.

Both the players have demonstrated their qualities over their student athletics careers. However, Jayden Daniels has played 2 extra years at the collegiate level than Drake Maye. Daniels is the winner of the 2023 Heisman Trophy. He has great athleticism but also may rely too much on his scrambling ability. On the other hand, Maye’s stock has been rising ever since the NFL Combine earlier this month.
As a downfield passer, he is creative and aggressive. But let’s not forget that last year his footwork and decision-making seemed clumsy. Now he was the No. 2 quarterback before the season, but Jayden Daniels successfully closed that gap. In fact, no other player has improved their draft stock like him. It is surprising to know that he wasn’t considered a first-round-caliber quarterback as he entered the season. Now, Daniels’ has been rated as the second-best QB this year behind Williams, and Maye is rated as the third-best QB.
