After their second consecutive Super Bowl win, the Kansas City Chiefs got praise from everyone. While the fans were ecstatic with the players’ stellar performance and coach Reid’s careful gameplay, the CEO is receiving some heavy criticism. The NFLPA report card is here, and it’s not looking good for Clark Hunt.

The player ratings ranked the Chiefs’ CEO last in the working conditions and second last overall among the 32 teams. The only silver lining for Kansas City was the head coach, Andy Reid, who was rated the best in the NFL. To the blatant critique coming his way, Hunt reacted and promised to wash away the sins of this year’s report.

The NFLPA report card is based on the players’ feedback to highlight the working conditions in their respective teams. The Chiefs received severe backlash about the facilities and ownership’s efforts toward addressing players’ concerns. The NFL wrote, “The responses identify major issues in two areas: quality of care and out-of-date facilities.” The CEO Hunt talked to the reporters at the NFL Combine and addressed the players’ dissatisfaction that came to light.

There was a question asked at the press conference about the practice facility and it is certainly a high priority for us. I have not had a chance to see the report,” Hunt said at the media conference. “The practice facility is something that we’re going to continue to think about. It’s coming up on 20 years; we certainly, in a lot of ways, have outgrown it. And we recognize that we have a need to expand it and modernize it.”

The only team after the Chiefs is the Washington Commanders. Hunt had made similar promises after last year’s NFLPA results were out, but it seems like players did not see any improvements.

The surveys succeeded in what the NFLPA aims: to highlight the need for a better workplace environment for the players. The president, JC Tretter, spoke about Kansas City’s result, saying it was the “frustration” of the Chiefs players at the CEO not following through with his promises, per PFT. He pointed out that the main concern was the locker room, which was supposed to be all new on the team’s return from the 2023 Super Bowl. But all that the winners got were new chairs!

“A lot of that was, I would say, frustration from the guys on promises that haven’t been kept as they’ve put up a bunch of success on the field. Not this past year, but the year before, the team promised them a brand-new locker room…They go on to win the Super Bowl. They come back for the offseason, and it’s the same locker room but with chairs [instead of stools].”

In what could be a planned move or mere coincidence, Hunt held a press conference around the same time the report card was released. The CEO talked about the team’s plans for renovating the Arrowhead Stadium with an investment of $300 million. While Hunt received an F- grade, ranking him last, the players appreciated Reid highly, and he was awarded an A+.

The NFLPA report card initiative aims to hold the team administration responsible for maintaining healthy and comfortable facilities for the players. As for the Chiefs, it’s their second rude awakening and reflects the players’ dissatisfaction. Hopefully, Clark Hunt follows through with his promises this time, and as Tretter said, “I think there’s only one Patrick Mahomes out there!”
