After losing 4 of the last 5 games, the Philadelphia Eagles look a bit shaky right now. The 31-35 loss to the Cardinals disrupted their playoff hopes, also leaving the team with arguably one of the worst records this year. People have lost their trust in Jalen Hurts and the Philly team. Questions are looming around whether the team still has what it takes to be a Super Bowl champion. Unfortunately, Nick Wright doesn’t seem to think so.

On an episode of the What’s Wright? With Nick Wright, the host discussed things that are going wrong with Jalen Hurts and Co. and pointed out three major concerns that the Eagles would have to overcome to even be remotely considered a Super Bowl contender. The Eagles have a huge problem with their defense, Nick Sirianni, and with the main man Jalen Hurts himself.

Nick Wright was posed with a simple question, which team that is in a slump has the highest chance of making it to the Super Bowl? There are always the same usual suspects, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Per the host, the Eagles’ chances of making it to the SB are abysmal and there are three main reasons behind it. However, the main reason is their sloppy defense. Wright stated, “Eagles’ defense is cooked”.

He supported his argument by mentioning that the Eagles’ defense ranks within the bottom 5 in the NFL. He dubbed their defense as “awful and irredeemable” and compared it to Chiefs offense but rated it slightly better. He pointed out how Kyler Murray, Drew Lock, Brock Purdy, and Dak Prescott had a near-perfect game against the Eagles.

“The short-term concern is the defense is cooked, the medium-term concern is that your coach might just be a bit of a front runner, and not really know how to deal with adversity,” He pointed out how Nick Sirianni showboated after winning a couple of games and folding when the team loses. According to Wright, the Eagles need to pay heed to issues surrounding Jalen Hurts.

He whispered on the mic, “Did they pay aberration year in regards to Jalen Hurts?” Wright feels that Hurts looked like an NFL franchise quarterback neither in his college year nor his first two years in the NFL. He emphasized that it’s the same case this year. Hurts is at the center of the “tush push” play and it’s just a matter of time before it takes its toll on him.

Two days, back, Wright blamed “Tush Push” as one of the reasons for Jalen Hurts’ declining performance amid a knee injury. On First Things First, the panel emphasized despite Hurts having a knee injury, the team continued to use plays that heavily relied on him running the ball, like the “tush push.

Nick Wright specifically  pointed out the macro concern saying, “Philly stop calling out all of these quarterback-driven runs and tush pushes if our quarter of billion-dollar quarterbacks hurt.” Hurts started just fine this season, and he succumbed to a couple of injuries but kept on playing.

Hurts injured his knee in the Week 7 game against the Dolphins, but returned in the second half wearing a sleeve. He re-injured his knee in Week 9 and still needs time to heal. He may have learned how to minimize the damage. Tush Push may have its pros and cons, but constant injuries are a big no for the sake of any athlete’s career. The team holds a record of 11 wins and 5 losses and is no longer leading the NFC East division. The question is, are the Eagles looking to change their strategies?

One take at a time

Basketball has stuck with me ever since I was a kid. I remember watching Kobe Bryant sometime in 2008 and being blown away. Like every kid my age, I was utterly taken aback by his moves and abilities as an athlete.
