Derrick Henry didn’t wait till he joined the NFL to make his big splash. This guy has been setting sky-high bars for running backs ever since he got on the field in high school. His nickname, ‘King Henry’ isn’t just a name. It’s a trophy he has earned through more than a decade of grit. So when the Baltimore Ravens got him in 2024, they knew they had snagged a legend in the making. And now, they have given the legend a crown worthy of his stature.
High school, college, and then an NFL pro, at every single stage of his career, he’s the only guy who’s rushed for 2000+ yards in a season. This five-time pro-bowler has been lining his trophy room with accolades most running backs would give their right leg for. But we’re not talking about his past achievements here. We’re talking about the major leap his career has taken, and the record he has scattered along the way.
As of the 2025 season, Derrick Henry will be entering the 10th season of his NFL career. And what better way to celebrate his 10th year in the NFL than with a grand paycheck? The Ravens running back has just landed a massive two-years, $30m contract extension after his remarkable performance last season. And remarkable is nothing but a big old understatement. He has plowed through defences like they were stick-figures. And his stamina, combined with his impressive build, is an ace that flips the table at every single game. So why wouldn’t the Ravens celebrate this guy?

As per a post on X by Adam Schefter, Derrick Henry has just landed the biggest deal in NFL history for someone in his position. As per Schefter, “Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens reached agreement today on a two-year, $30 million extension that includes $25 million fully guaranteed over the next two seasons, per Todd France of Athletes First. It is the largest deal in NFL history for a running back over 30 years old.” Derrick Henry will now be playing with a contract value of around $37M through 2027. He was only supposed to make $7M on his expiring deal. But now that number becomes a much more attractive one. That’s how you celebrate a player who has dedicated a decade to the NFL.

Even on the Pat McAfee Show, Mcafee spoke about Derrick Henry’s contract extension and emphasised that he deserved it. Pat said, “Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill get paid in Tennessee, massive turnover happens. He goes to Baltimore. We all assume what a perfect fit, what a perfect match for a team and a culture. And here we are a year later, after a successful run. And that is the case.” Through eight seasons with the Titans, and one season with the Ravens, this guy left nothing to be desired. Pat further added, “Remember at the beginning of the season, Harbaugh said, we’re not running a 30-year-old Derrick Henry 20 times a game. Like that is not how we’re going to win. And as the season went on, it was like, yeah, we are actually going to feed this guy. He’s a special athlete, and he takes care of himself.”
Imagine being so elite that you crush HC John Harbaugh’s opinion of you, just like you crush defenders when rushing. That’s just how Derrick Henry rolls. And with his latest contract extension crown, his payday has gotten a lot bigger than ever before.
