Jalen Ramsey incurred the wrath of many ice hockey fans and players back in 2018 with his bold comments. The Miami Dolphins cornerback caused ripples in the NHL when he claimed that he could easily excel in the sport with just six months of training. Naturally, the comment ruffled quite some feathers in the hockey world.

It has been almost five years since the 2016 draft pick got backlash from the NHL greats like Jack Eichel and Seth Jones. This offseason, apart from working out in preparation for the upcoming season, the CB’s recent outing might have washed away the errors of the past.

The Dolphins’ cornerback seems to have left his days of controversial ice hockey takes behind him. Instead, Ramsey was seen coming out in full support of his home team as the Stanley Cup commenced this Sunday. The Florida Panthers got the hype they needed before their game, with the 2021 Super Bowl champion banging the drum.

In the clip going viral from the match, Ramsey can be seen beating the drum with the Florida team’s logo on it. The excitement in his action and beat got everyone in the house on their toes, with fans enthusiastically chanting, “Let’s go, Panthers!”

The seven-time Pro Bowl was traded to Miami last season and has already taken up the franchise’s tradition of supporting their home team in the NHL. Their star quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, head coach, Mike McDaniel, and Dan Marino have blown the battle horn for the Panthers in the past years.

It seems like Ramsey has already soaked in the South Florida flavor and was seen keeping the tab on the score on X for the match, making sure the excitement for the game stays intact. His adoption of the hypeman role for the Panthers might reconcile him with the ice hockey fans and, hopefully, the NHL players who were offended by his 2018 comments.

Ramsey’s trash-talk got strong reactions from NHL athletes

The three-time All-Pro is no stranger to controversy, with his loud-mouthed comments often landing him in hot water. Something similar happened in his interview with ESPN when he proclaimed he could shine easily in any sport other than baseball. For ice hockey, especially, Ramsey gave himself a mere six months of training to secure a spot in the league. As was expected, the cornerback was showered with a series of criticisms from the NHL sphere.

The Golden Knights’ center Jack Eichel called the former Jaguars star’s uncaring comments “insulting” and “ignorant,” while the current Panthers’ right winger Vladimir Tarasenko blatantly refuted the loud claim, calling it “impossible,” as per ESPN. “I can bet any money in the world and there’s no chance he can play in the NHL in six months,” said Tarasenko. “It’s impossible. Him saying that … it de-classes our sport.”

Many players like Seth Jones also pointed out how the NFL athlete wouldn’t be able to even learn to skate properly in the quoted time duration, let alone make it to a roster. Now, as Jalen Ramsey enters the ninth season of his NFL journey, the 29-year-old has matured, both in his game and his statements. The cornerback is set to return to Miami in the 2024 season and has already begun his preparations to help his team make it to the playoffs, with such controversies all seemingly behind him.
