The Minnesota Vikings and the Denver Broncos are at an impasse with their quarterback situation. Despite having the No. 11 overall pick, the Minnesota team doesn’t seem to make it out of the mud. But word is getting around that the Vikings are willing to trade aggressively to get a top 5 pick in hopes of drafting a good QB. However, there are other forces at play here.

The Denver Broncos, with their 12 overall pick, are also QB-hungry right now. Sean Payton is also looking for a QB who knows the game inside out and has great physical prowess. Only a few people fit that quota. After Kirk Cousins left the team, players like Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, as good as they are, still need a signal caller to proceed.

Schrager went on to speak to Colin Cowherd about his draft and the Minnesota team became a focal point of the conversation. Schrager’s draft is different because it’s based on inside information from his sources. “The issue for me is, even if you give the 11 and 23 first-round picks, and I think the Vikings have more picks than anybody in like the entire draft. Even if you give all that up, you’re moving up to two to three to four to five, those guys are going to want your first-round pick and back at 11, you miss out on some key players.” Said Schrager.

The Vikings are upset with their management
Per sources, the Minnesota Vikings’ GM, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been under scrutiny from the team for not strategizing and using the draft capital well enough. Though they hold pick No. 11 and 23, they cannot expect a QB to fall in their hands and might not need a receiver any time soon. But Adofo-Mensah says that he doesn’t want to “force” to draft a QB.

“You have to be ready for everything; it’s a very deep class,” he said. “But I do think you have to be ready for every scenario. If there are elite players at premium positions on the board, I don’t think you’re supposed to reach or force or anything like that,” said the GM.

He then added, “It’s just not what I believe, all the while understanding that quarterback is the most important position in the sport. So, it’s calculating both those things at the same time.”
What if the team gives up all their draft capital only to draft a QB who goes bust? If they do so, they also lose future security to draft better players in the future.
