The signing of Saquon Barkley by the Eagles was a big move that could solve their RB woes. The substantial investment in Barkley suggests he’ll be a prominent fixture on the field. But there is still the LB problem to address. The Eagles witnessed T.J. Edwards’ rise over four seasons, only to bid him farewell as he joined the Bears.

Players like Duke Riley, Genard Avery, and Alex Singleton had donned the jersey for brief stints. And last year, Zach Cunningham and Nick Morrow made short appearances under one-year contracts. Now, the Eagles are placing their bets on Devin White, embracing yet another hopeful on a one-year tenure.

Ari Meirov reported that a one-year contract valued at $7.5 million was clinched by White this Thursday. The details of the incentives and milestones needed have not been revealed. But he seems to be following in the footsteps of his QB Baker Mayfield, with his incentive loaded contract.

Mayfield is on track to rake in a solid $30 million in 2024 and 2025, each. By 2026, the stakes get even higher with a whopping $40 million heading his way. On top of this, there’s a sweet incentive of $5 million annually, potentially maxing out the contract’s worth to an impressive $115 million.

According to Ed Kracz, at times, White can be his greatest enemy. He can veer towards a style of play that could come across as undisciplined. To avoid being sidelined, White will need to align his game with DC Vic Fangio’s strategy. Periods of benching marked his season at Tampa Bay last year.

On the flip side, there is a lot to look forward to. White brings to the table a wealth of experience with 75 starts under his belt. Additionally, his track record includes three straight years, from 2020 to 2022, where he achieved over 124 tackles each season, though this figure dipped to 83 last season. His career statistics further boast nine sacks, nine forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and 40 tackles for loss.

As he bid farewell to the Bucs, he penned a heartfelt letter to his former team.

White’s “adieu” to the Bucs

In a gesture of gratitude, White took to X to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Buccaneers and their fans. “I’m not sure where to start or how to find the right words to let y’all know the love and gratitude I have for welcoming this cowboy in from the moment my name was called five years ago,” he started. The LB seemed to be brimming with appreciation. “I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my career and for that I’m truly blessed and thankful.”

He also acknowledged his teammates for their integral role in molding him into the person he is today. Finally, he paid tribute to the Bucs’ fans and the broader Tampa Bay community. “While my next steps will be somewhere new, my first steps in this league were with you. You will forever hold a cherished place in my heart,” White affirmed in his message. “I will never take for granted the time I’ve spent being with you in the community and getting to know so many of you.”

Here’s hoping that White finds a similar connection and love over in Philly.
