The Dolphins eked out a win against the Patriots. But it came at a cost—star running back De’Von Achane took a hard hit in the first quarter, staying down on the sidelines after the play. Achane was later helped off the field and taken to the locker room for a concussion evaluation. So, what does that mean for his availability in Week 6?

NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared, “Good news health-wise,” noting Achane had nearly 100 yards from scrimmage. However, Ian reported that Achane’s status for Week 6 depends on how he responds to the concussion protocol, potentially sidelining him for the Colts game.

De’Von Achane took a tough hit on an end-around play after Tyler Huntley threw him the ball, gaining 12 yards before his head slammed into the turf. As if we can feel it. That slam on the turf knocked him out of the game. Who took the reins then? It was Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright. And it went from bad to worse.

The Dolphins started strong with a field goal. But things went south quickly. A costly interception and a missed field goal put them in a 7-3 hole against the Patriots. Without Achane’s speed in the backfield, Miami struggled to generate consistent momentum on offense. Nonetheless, they held on to their slender win, courtesy of a questionable NFL rule that overturned Ja’Lynn Polk‘s TD and quashed the Pats’ hope.

Achane wrapped up Week 5 with three carries for 18 yards and one catch for minus-1 yard before exiting. With him out, the Dolphins must rely heavily on Mostert and Wright to manage backfield duties. And that’s a concern. It’s something about what De’Von brings to the team with his contributions, and they would miss it against the Colts.

Will De’Von Achane’s absence haunt Miami against the Colts?

De’Von Achane came into the league with a bang, didn’t he? The third-round pick out of Texas A&M turned heads last season before a knee injury against the Giants took him out of the game. He made a solid comeback, dropping 107 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown on the Bills.

But let’s be real—he wasn’t quite the same explosive force. Still, with 800 yards and 11 total TDs in his rookie year, you can’t deny he’s become an integral part of Miami’s offense.

Fast forward to 2024, Achane was already on fire with 352 all-purpose yards before that unfortunate concussion. Now, the Dolphins are dealing with a bit of a backfield nightmare.

For starters, Raheem Mostert’s been in and out with injuries. And don’t even get started on Jeff Wilson and Alex Ingold. You’ve got rookie Jaylen Wright stepping up, but let’s face it, losing Achane comes at an expense.

Do you think that’s not enough to call it a tough break? Yeah, well, read on. To add salt to the wound, Miami’s been struggling without Tua Tagovailoa. Sure, they just got it over the line against the Pats. But for a team with ambitions, is ‘getting over the line’ enough?
