The Miami Dolphins won their first match of the season. But their 27-21 victory over the New York Jets came with a terrible cost. Star receiver Tyreek Hill dislocated his knee in their Week 4 matchup and had to be hospitalized. Undergoing surgery, the Miami speedster has shared a major update.

Going to his X handle, Tyreek Hill posted a short update followed by a Bible verse. “Surgery went great. 🙏🏾 Romans 8:18, ‘For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.’” After losing their most explosive offensive weapon, the injury update from Hill comes as a soothing salve to Miami. But how do the Dolphins pivot without their most dominant receiver?

Head coach Mike McDaniel had noted that Hill’s attitude post-injury was a major boost for the team to snatch its first win. “He was probably in the best spirits of any player that I’ve ever – he immediately had wide eyes and was talking, ‘I’m good. Just make sure the guys get  this win. He was focused on the team.’” Coach McDaniel also praised the work Hill had been putting in through the offseason. “He was inspiring in that situation and I think his teammates benefited from that.” But now, with Hill sidelined, Miami’s next man up mentality will be tested like never before.

Losing Hill means Miami’s offense hits a whole new gear of uncertainty. Before the injury, he burned the Jets’ defense for 67 yards across 6 receptions. His 2025 campaign had been a slow start, but he still had the kind of pace that makes defensive coordinators lose sleep. Now, the WR1 role falls to Jayen Waddle. Hill’s absence will also force more pressure on Malik Washington and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Still, Hill’s one-of-a-kind burst can’t be replaced, no matter how creative the scheme gets. Defenses know it, Miami knows it, and every matchup just got tougher.

While the Dolphins prepare for a face-off against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, Hill now balances his NFL journey going forward. How soon will he be back again?

Tyreek Hill’s NFL return timeline

From the hospital, Tyreek Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus had painted a grim picture. As he noted in an interview from the hospital, “He’s getting an MRI and a CT scan to determine the extent of the damage. Are there any torn ligaments, is there torn cartilage, are there any broken bones, to check on the blood flow, any, God forbid, nerve damage? – All of this is getting checked out.” But things went well. Hill later snapped a photo with his agent, both flashing assured looks. But with the severity of his injury, Hill is likely to miss the rest of the 2025 season.

As Rosenhaus confirmed, “It’s about rehab and he will play next season. The realistic goal is the start of the season.” It wasn’t just a stock agent platitude; it was the first sign that Miami’s star would tackle recovery with his trademark energy. Hill’s latest surgery update and the accompanying Bible verse also sounded hopeful. His 2025 season may be over, but his NFL career is already focused on plotting a comeback next year.

For now, Mike McDaniel faces a playbook rewrite. The Dolphins offense has thrived on shock value, and Hill has supplied most of it. Now, they have to create plans around Waddle’s agility, Westbrook-Ikhine’s veteran experience, and creative gadget plays. The mantra is clear: Miami’s season isn’t dead, but the next few weeks will reveal which Dolphins are built for the moment.
