It wasn’t long ago when the Dolphins‘ DC Anthony Weaver called on his players to become more violent. He told them straight away that all the problems they were facing in the defense could be solved by being a bit more violent than they were showing. And just after the call, the defensive firepower reignited. It showed as they beat the NY Jets by 27-21. HC Mike McDaniel was happy.

While talking to the reporters during the post-game conference, the coach said, “I’m going to call to Anthony Weaver to call for more violence more often.” It was their first win of the season, which made the coach add, “I think we’ve gotten better, and we had to. Getting in the win column took longer than we wanted, but it was satisfying.” It was a long time coming.

Once Weaver gave the call to be more violent, the locker room also responded positively. $73 million star Minkah Fitzpatrick also called for his teammates to change their approach to the game. He said, “We’ve got to be in a position where we can play fast. I think when you’re playing slow, you’re not able to be violent. We’re in a position to play downhill, put our shoulder pads on people, knock the ball off of people. I think that’s when we get that violence that he’s talking about.”
The Dolphins’ offense was efficient and balanced in the matchup. They finished with 300 total yards, averaging 5.4 yards per play, while protecting the football with no turnovers. The passing game produced 177 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-25 attempts, and the offensive line held strong, allowing zero sacks.
On the ground, Miami ran for 123 yards on 31 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per attempt. While not explosive, the run game provided enough balance to keep drives moving. Most importantly, the Dolphins were sharp in the red zone, converting three of four trips into touchdowns, which proved decisive.

Defensively, the Dolphins made impact plays by forcing three turnovers and holding the Jets to 21 points. They were particularly strong in the red zone, limiting New York to three touchdowns on four opportunities. However, the unit struggled to contain the run, allowing 197 rushing yards on 28 carries, a concerning 7.0 yards per attempt.
The Jets also piled up 404 total yards, suggesting Miami’s defense bent often but avoided breaking thanks to turnovers and situational stops. While the defense showed resilience, shoring up the run defense will be critical moving forward.

For the fans, it was a great game as they watched their players dominate the rivals. Overall, they are 11th in the league in tackles (252 overall, 173 solo) and 8 sacks. But after going behind 1-3, they need to carry on with the same tempo they showed against the Jets. While Mike McDaniel was happy, the rival HC Aaron Glenn lost his cool after going 0-4. He even screamed at his locker room after the game, venting out on the players.
Although they won the week 4 game, they had both positives and negatives during the game.

The Dolphins dominated the game from the kickoff. Although the visitors did keep them at bay during the first quarter, the Phins still managed to score a field goal and added a touchdown in the 2nd quarter to finish the halftime with a 10-3 score. They added two TDs in the third quarter before finishing the game 27-21 with a field goal in the 4th quarter.
At the 13:28 mark, Tua Tagovailoa passed the ball to their key WR Tyreek Hill. But the Jets’ safety Malachi Moore tackled him, taking him out of the sidelines. While doing that, Cheetah snapped his left leg, which was gruesome to watch. The medical team rushed to the field, carted him off , and took him straight to the hospital. Players from both teams kneeled and prayed for his safety.

Fellow NFL players, including Hill’s former QB Patrick Mahomes, tweeted out in support of his receiver. While Mike McDaniel was happy with the week 4 win, he now needs to take care of his receiving corps. They are already struggling in their WR department, ranking 26th in the league with 84 receptions for 784 yards and 7 touchdowns.

So while Anthony Weaver takes care of the defense, the head coach needs to think of assignments with his OC, Frank Smith. That’s the only way they carry the victory momentum. Otherwise, their plans will only go downhill.
