Tyreek Hill has always been a funny guy on social media. After teasing the Bills Mafia, reacting to coach Mike McDaniel’s rolling up in his matte black ride in Fort Lauderdale, and uploading an AI-generated picture of himself behind a DJ booth, he dropped hints at his new career choice. And now, in classic Cheetah style, he has pulled a new move to keep his fans thinking.

Hill’s Instagram account was seen with a new bio: “Unemployed”.
While this instance strikes as comic to many, it could all but confirm an underlying update about his future in Miami. Ever since he went out for the season because of the ACL injury, rumors surrounding his being waived by the Dolphins keep piling up. The speculation grew when an insider himself suggested that McDaniel is motivated to make drastic changes regarding Hill.

“Tyreek will be cut for cap space, and he has a MASSIVE rehab ahead of him. If he took out an insurance policy, it might be more financially beneficial to cash out and retire,” Omar Kelly, columnist for the Miami Herald, wrote on his X.
Hill suffered multiple torn ligaments and an ACL injury in September, ending his season and possibly affecting his 2026 availability. This injury, combined with McDaniel’s need to manage salary cap consideration (Hill’s 2026 cap hit is $51,898,750), is pushing the team to potentially cut or trade Hill.

Hill is locked in a massive 3-year $90 million extension before the 2024 season, which keeps him under contract through 2026. The deal even has three void years to help with the cap. The most interesting part is that there’s no guarantee past 2025. This might compel the team to make a move for financial reasons and move on from Hill. But will McDaniel let go of Hill, or does the wideout have other plans?

Tyreek Hill shares retirement plans after sustaining a season-ending injury
The 31-year-old wide receiver was performing at an elite level in the season before sustaining the injury against the New York Jets in week 4. He had already recorded 21 receptions for 265 yards in just 4 games. At 31, the injury raises questions about his long-term future in the NFL.
When asked later about his retirement plans, Hill did not mention officially retiring, but for now, he signaled that he wants to spend more time with his family and focus on his rehab.

“At the end of the day, I feel like that decision is all based upon how I feel and where my mindset is at the moment,” Hill said on Terron Armstead’s “The Set” podcast. “Right now, I’m happy with being with my kids. I’m happy with the career that I’ve had, and I love playing football. I love it. But it takes a lot. … To be the best and to stay at the top. … It takes a lot on you mentally. It takes a lot on you physically.”

Hill did not directly say that he is considering retirement, but didn’t rule out the possibility either. Just a few weeks into the rehab, he wasn’t ready to make any decisions just yet.
