The Tennessee Titans shocked everyone by becoming the first team to fire their head coach mid-season. And now, with Brian Callahan out, all eyes are suddenly on Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. His seat’s heating up fast, and losing to the Browns, a 1-5 team, could be the moment the front office finally loses patience. Will the injury gods be on his side?

For once, the Dolphins are about as healthy as they’ve been all season. Only three players showed up on the injury report with official designations, and defensive back Elijah Campbell is the lone name already ruled out. Something that McDaniel had cleared up earlier in the week.

That one hurts, though. Campbell will miss his second straight game with a quad injury from last week’s practice. And the timing’s unlucky. The team was reportedly about to give him a real shot at the nickel corner spot, with defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver saying earlier this week that Campbell was next in line to get a chance there.

And while that’s already a blow to a defense that’s been shaky at best, there are still a couple more question marks. Cornerback Storm Duck and linebacker Tyrel Dodson are both listed as questionable. But all signs point to their suiting up against the Browns.

On Friday, McDaniel sounded pretty optimistic. He said the team was confident that Dodson would clear the concussion protocol in time to play and confirmed that Campbell was the only player expected to miss the game.

Tight end Darren Waller was limited throughout the week with a hip issue and a rest day, but is expected to be available on Sunday. On offense, linemen Aaron Brewer and fullback Alec Ingold both practiced in full to close the week after dealing with pectoral and neck issues, respectively.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. were also full participants and are set to play. Rookie safety Dante Trader Jr. and linebacker Jordyn Brooks practiced fully and are clear for action. Of course, given how this season’s gone for Miami, it’s hard to take anything for granted.

Still, compared to what the Browns are dealing with, McDaniel can’t complain too much. Kevin Stefanski, on the other hand, probably isn’t feeling as lucky.

Kevin Stefanski faces multiple setbacks

Right now, both McDaniel and Stefanski are walking that same thin line. One more bad loss, and the front office could snap. But when it comes to health, McDaniel clearly got the edge. Cleveland’s latest injury report didn’t do Stefanski any favors.

The Browns enter the week banged up in the trenches and at tight end. David Njoku has been ruled out after missing all three practices with a knee injury, while fellow tight end Blake Whiteheart should be available after returning to full participation. On the offensive line, Jack Conklin remains in concussion protocol and is questionable, while guard Joel Bitonio and tackle Cam Robinson both practiced fully to close the week.

Defensively, Myles Garrett is expected to play despite being limited early in the week with an elbow issue. Mason Graham and Mike Hall Jr. are both questionable with knee injuries, while Shelby Harris is good to go. Receiver Jerry Jeudy also practiced fully after dealing with a minor knee issue, but rookie Gage Larvadain remains questionable as he works through concussion protocol.

Hall’s situation has been strange all year. The Browns never put him on IR or the PUP list, yet the second-rounder has already missed six games. He’s said he’s close to returning, but Stefanski might not want to push him just yet. Well, given the nature of the game, he might.

Graham’s injury popped up late in the week, a knee issue from Thursday’s practice that the team says isn’t serious. As for Conklin, he did manage to return to practice on Friday but still hasn’t cleared concussion protocol. So yeah, a lot more headaches for Stefanski to juggle than for Mike McDaniel. Miami’s finally catching a break, but Cleveland’s walking into Sunday full of question marks.
