Things are really heating up ahead of draft night! What the Patriots should do with the fourth overall pick in the first round is still a debate. Amidst this, NFL national reporter Peter Schrager raised many eyebrows by making grave accusations against New England Patriots GM Elliot Wolf. Oops! But what did he state?

Peter Schrager, known for his candid takes and critiques of draft selections, recently revealed that a Patriots front office member duped him. But what made the seasoned reporter speak out against Eliot Wolf? And has the ESPN sportscaster really been misled? Let’s break it down.

On their official Instagram page, ESPN NFL shared a clip highlighting Schrager’s frustration with the Patriots, who currently hold the fourth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The short video, taken from his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, captured his blunt reaction, which ESPN hyped with the caption: “A Patriots front office member duped Peter Schrager in Cleveland, so he now believes nothing pertaining to the NFL Draft,” followed by a crying emoji.

During the segment, Schrager didn’t hold back, criticizing Eliot Wolf and the Patriots’ handling of the No. 1 overall pick.
“I’ve been doing this a long time. Eliot Wolf’s been in the league a long time. The number one overall pick—I’ve never been more completely duped,” Schrager said.

Former Fox Sports reporter Peter Schrager also shared how he had to put together a mock draft—making countless calls, even to people within the organization—and he was certain that Sam Darnold’s going number one to Cleveland.” But when draft day came and the pick was announced as Baker Mayfield, Schrager felt completely blindsided. Despite his confidence in Darnold (now a Seahawks quarterback), the surprise pick shook his trust, particularly in the Patriots, who had Eliot Wolf as part of the Browns’ front office at the time.

“Sam Darnold is the Cleveland Browns quarterback. I did that around Wednesday afternoon—I felt really confident in it. The pick was made, and the announcement from one Roger Goodell was Baker Mayfield,” Schrager recalled.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, the Browns selected Baker Mayfield as the No. 1 overall pick, while the Jets picked Darnold at No. 3. That year’s first round also included other quarterbacks like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Rosen. But for Schrager, that moment marked the beginning of deep skepticism toward Wolf’s drafting methods.

“Do you know who was in that front office? Eliot Wolf was number two in that front office. So I don’t trust anything from the Patriots now,” he stated, making it clear he still harbors frustration. “I think Eliot Wolf gets a kick out of everyone zigging while they zag—and then they say, ‘Well, we didn’t say anything. You guys made that assumption,’” he continued to call out Wolf’s tactics.

With Round 1 of the draft just hours away in Green Bay, Schrager didn’t hold back: “Anyone who says they know what the Patriots are doing at pick four and calls it a slam dunk—they’re full of it. Eliot Wolf’s not talking, and I don’t think [Jerod] Mayo is either.” Despite the skepticism, rumors and predictions are swirling as the Patriots hold four picks in the first round.

The 2025 NFL mock draft chatter is heating up—and so is the tension.

Just a day before the NFL Draft, Peter Schrager’s report on the Browns sparked a wave of buzz. He teased a bold move by Cleveland, and now fans can’t stop wondering—could the Patriots be eyeing a trade-up? With speculation swirling and front offices scrambling, the phones are heating up fast.

According to ESPN’s Peter Schrager, both the Browns (No. 2) and Giants (No. 3) are fielding serious trade offers. Teams are looking to move up for blue-chip playmakers like Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter, or running back Ashton Jeanty, who’s projected to go between picks five and eight.

It’s classic pre-draft poker. Meanwhile, the Patriots, sitting at No. 4, might finally go big. ESPN’s Jordan Reid reported they’re eyeing LSU’s Will Campbell—a powerful offensive lineman built to protect Drake Maye’s blindside.

“The Patriots have drafted only one offensive lineman in the top 10 since 1967 (Hall of Famer John Hannah in 1973), but that’s likely to change,” Reid noted. “Vederian Lowe is penciled in as the starting left tackle, but he ranked 49th out of 66 in pass block win rate last season.”

Reid praised Campbell as a tough, durable, plug-and-play starter, despite concerns over his short arm length. He played 2,451 career snaps and allowed only four sacks. “He’s a tough and durable blocker,” Reid said.

Short arms? Who cares? The Patriots need toughness, and Campbell brings it. This could be New England’s smartest draft move in years.
