Honestly, what’s going on in Philadelphia? I mean, their latest offensive signing fuels more speculation on the future of their veteran star, Dallas Goedert. Soon to be an eighth-year pro, is Goedert slowly etching towards a future elsewhere? Like he’s essentially a lame duck with no guaranteed money left on his $57M extension back in 2021. So, maybe the Eagles are preparing to move on from Goedert, who carries a $12.06M cap hit in 2025, with the arrival of their second TE within a gap of a week.

See, last week, the Eagles had just announced the signing of free agent Harrison Bryant. That had already painted a bleak picture of Goedert’s future in Philly. But now, it takes another hit as the Eagles have agreed to terms with TE Kylen Granson on a 1-year deal. Granson is coming to the reigning Super Bowl Champions after spending 4 seasons in Indianapolis. In just 17 starts across 62 regular-season games, Granson had racked up 86 receptions for 958 yards and only 1 TD. Still only 27, the TE comes with one great quality that stands out for his position.

Based on the Pro Football Focus readings, the 6-foot-3, 242-pound TE had one of the best-blocking rates out of all TEs last season. But Granson’s arrival in Philly means he will now be the 4th TE in the Eagles depth chart. Goedert and Grant Calcaterra were already there since last season, then came Bryant and now Granson. So, it might be sooner rather than later that Goedert’s 7 season stint with the Eagles might be over.

Like fans are already bracing themselves to hear the inevitable on Goedert’s future. One of them wrote under Granson’s announcement, “We really trading Dallas, huh?” While another fan added, “We done signed two TEs now…it’s this in preparation for bad news about Goedert?” Well, anything could happen in the next few weeks. But whatever happens with Goedert’s future in Philly, there would be no doubt his successor will have some huge shoes to fill.

Coming off an incredible Super Bowl LIX run where he was the lead receiver, catching 17 passes for 215 yards and 1 TD. Goedert’s departure will surely leave a gaping hole in his position until, of course, Calcaterra, Bryant, or Granson steps up.

But on the day when the Eagles brought in more reinforcements to their offense, they may have missed out on a Chiefs defensive star, which could have given them an edge next season.

Eagles miss out on two-time Super Bowl Champion as Saints pounce

28-year-old safety Justin Reid had a profound impact on the Chiefs’ defense for 3 years in Kansas City. With two back-to-back Super Bowl titles, Reid was only one game away from completing a three-peat until the Eagles crushed those dreams. After missing out on his third Lombardi, the Chiefs decided not to re-sign Reid with his 3-year contract coming to an end. So, as he prepared to hit the free agency, multiple franchises hovered over his signature. But ultimately, he signed with the Saints on an identical 3-year, $31.5M contract.

However, it could have been way different for the former Stanford graduate. Hopping on the Up & Adams show, he revealed the Eagles were actually whiskers away from signing him, “Pretty close, actually. Just because me and the defensive backs coach there [Possibly Christian Parker] have a really good relationship. The defensive system was the same defensive system that I ran at Stanford. That whole Vin Fangio system, I know it pretty well.”

But it didn’t turn out the way he had hoped for. The moment the Eagles traded away their safety, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Reid could have eased into the Eagles defensive setup alongside Reed Blankenship. But due to certain cap issues, Reid stayed back in New Orleans to play in the Caesars Superdome. His $31.5M contract consists of an eye-watering $22.25M in guarantees. This means his total guarantees rank among the top 12 safeties in the league.

So, monetary-wise, Reid’s future is sorted. But if you look at the franchise. Reid has basically sacrificed Super Bowl glories for a rebuild in New Orleans. The Saints are coming off a horrendous 5-12 record and would surely like to change things quickly with Reid’s arrival in the backfield. Paired up with veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu, the Saints will be hoping they can at least turn their horrible 27th-most passing yards allowed record last season into something more respectable.
