Every NFL career eventually reaches its final chapter, and Brandon Graham appears ready to turn the page. He spent his entire career with the Philadelphia Eagles, winning two Super Bowls (Super Bowl LII and Super Bowl LIX) in the process. And just ahead of the 2026 season, Graham confirmed the timeline of his potential retirement.

“I’m just taking my time,” said Graham on NFL Network’s talk show, GMFB. “I’m going to really know this year cuz if it’s this year or this is it. Just really enjoying [with] my kids right now. Working out, golfing every day, trying to just enjoy the time that I’m getting right now. I don’t know what the team is going to do. But like I said, I don’t want to go halfway through the season like I did last year. I would love to start in the beginning if I can. But if training camp doesn’t happen, I think I’m probably going to wrap it up after that.”

The timeline is clear for Graham if the Eagles decide to retain him before the start of the season; he’s all in. If not, he is ready to retire.

As things stand, the Eagles released Graham in a procedural post-June 1 cap move. This move split his dead-cap hit between 2026 and 2027 to save Philadelphia $1.3 million while making the veteran defensive end a free agent. But Graham seemed quite clear about joining the Eagles for another season.

“If Howie [Roseman] makes that call, I’m coming back, one more,” he said during a live Super Bowl reaction party in February.

However, based on what unfolded last season, it seems Graham will have a different approach in negotiating another year with the Eagles. He joined the franchise midseason last year in October. Following that, Graham played nine games coming off the bench for Philadelphia, where he recorded eight total tackles and 3.0 sacks. Quite underwhelming numbers. One may argue that he wasn’t ready following his brief retirement stint.

On March 18, 2025, after completing his 15th NFL season, Brandon Graham announced that he is officially stepping away from football. In an emotional farewell gathering, he spoke his heart out.

“I gave everything I had in this, and I don’t have no regrets. That’s one thing I tell the young boys – don’t have any regrets… While my time on the field is coming to an end, my love for this team and city will never fade. Philadelphia and everybody, from the bottom of my heart, I just want to thank y’all. E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES! Fly Eagles Fly! My last one. BG out, baby!”

As it seemed, Graham may have called it quits on his football career. However, in just seven months, he made a turnaround and came out of retirement. The 38-year-old DE felt the Philadelphia Eagles had an urgent need for pass-rushing depth after Za’Darius Smith’s sudden retirement. And he seemingly wanted to be available for the franchise with whom he spent his entire NFL career.

But as things stand, speculation around Graham’s second retirement is growing stronger. Even if he does walk away from the game, his career has been truly sensational.

A glance through Brandon Graham’s NFL career

Brandon Graham joined the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2010 NFL Draft as their first-round pick. He came into the draft with a standout pedigree of outstanding performances. In his four- season collegiate career stint with the Michigan Wolverines, Graham didn’t just play well; he was one of the most dominant, disruptive edge-rushers in the country.

To back that, Graham was unblockable in his 2009 senior season as his 26.0 tackles for loss led all of college football. Despite such numbers, Graham was initially labelled as a “bust” in the NFL. However, with consistent performance over the years, he transformed into the longest-tenured and most enduring defensive icon in the Eagles’ history.

In 215 regular-season games, the DE recorded 79.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles, and 495 total tackles (363 solo, 132 assists). But when we speak about his accolades, apart from becoming a two-time Super Bowl champion, Graham also received Pro Bowl honors once in 2020. Amid that, he also holds one franchise record.

Graham has the Eagles’ record for regular-season games played (215) under his name. He surpassed legendary kicker David Akers with 183 games in 2023. Even last season, despite returning from a brief seven-month retirement period, Graham logged a dominant multi-sack (2) performance against the Las Vegas Raiders. In doing so, he became the oldest player in Eagles history to record a sack.
