Cowboys legend Michael Irvin has a bold message for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts ahead of the Eagles Week 3 clash with the Los Angeles Rams.

“All off-season we talk about giving Jalen Hurts his due. He’s a great quarterback, but what kind of quarterback in we measure him against how he passes as opposed to when he runs. And everything, right now, Jalen and the Eagles have not thrown a touchdown pass,” Irvin explained.
With Hurts yet to throw a touchdown this season, the veteran’s words could spark a turning point, and the Los Angeles Rams are watching.

Michael Irvin issued a sharp warning about the Eagles’ QB’s role and performance.
Irvin’s comments echo those questioning Jalen Hurts’ value, as he hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass yet. In Week 1, the Eagles leaned on the run game, while the Cowboys struggled to sustain drives, and Miles Sanders’ key fumble helped seal Philly’s win, keeping them undefeated without a single passing TD.

Irvin explained how those dynamics laid the groundwork for Hurts.
“This is why people question the importance of Jalen.” As in the first two games, the player has 253 yards with zero TD. ”Now, that is also why the AJ Brown and Puka battle is the battle I pulled out of this third game,” he said. Irvin pointed out that the Eagles might involve wide receivers like AJ Brown more heavily to silence critics.
He continued, “…Then boom, AJ Brown goes off, and you see them at the podium saying, ‘See, there was nothing to worry about. We told y’all we can do this anytime we want.’ Anytime they make us doubt that Jalen Hurts is a top quarterback because he hasn’t thrown any touchdown passes, and we have those conversations, they say, ‘Well, y’all brought it out, busting it.’’’
What’s your perspective on:
Is Jalen Hurts overrated, or will he prove doubters wrong against the Rams this week?
Have an interesting take?
A.J. Brown has had a slow start with only 35 yards in two games. But the Eagles aren’t worried. After last season’s Super Bowl run, they believe he will get back on track soon.
On top of that, he has contributed at least seven touchdowns and 1,000 yards per year for the last three seasons. If anything has been learned from history, then Brown is more than capable of surprising all of us in upcoming stint.
That said, the Eagles face a unique challenge. They are the first team since 2010 to start 2-0 without a passing touchdown. While they have managed to win with strong rushing and defense, the Rams, who have allowed just one touchdown in two games, will be a serious test.
Jalen Hurts’ Eagles vs. Rams
Subsequently, the unbeaten 2-0 Los Angeles Rams and 2-0 Philadelphia Eagles meet in Week 3 of an NFC fight. The Rams defeated the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans, whereas the Eagles recorded two wins, the latest being their Week 2, 20-17 victory over the Chiefs.
Irvin considers this to be the marquee game of the season. “The number one big game or Rams Eagles? I go Rams Eagles as the big game of the year. First of all, the champions are the champions, you know. So, that game right there is what it is. And the champion is undefeated, playing the team that is undefeated,” he said.
The veteran pointed out the Rams still feel they let the Eagles slip away with a win and the title last season. That adds emotion and intensity, making this game personal and huge for them. “And the team, the Rams, that they’re playing saying, ‘Ah, we had y’all last year. Even in the snow, we had y’all, let you off the hook.’ So, you got our ring and this game could be… Yeah. Let’s see who takes the lead here. And I’m going to tell you why this game is too big for me. For me, why I make it number one.’’

The Eagles’ history with the Rams adds context to this matchup. In the 2024 playoffs, Philly ended L.A.’s season with a 28-22 win. Overall, they’ve met 46 times since 1937, with the Eagles leading the series 25-20-1.
The Eagles aim to stay undefeated, while the Rams are eager to avenge their 2024 playoff loss. Michael Irvin’s column captures both narratives: the debate over Jalen Hurts’ quiet stats versus his undeniable impact, and the strategic battles the Eagles must win to stay atop the NFC.
