The Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to be defending champions in 2025. Instead, they finished with an offense that posted Jalen Hurts’ worst completion percentage on deep throws in five seasons and spent the entire offseason watching AJ Brown trade rumors pile up. Every few days, a new “source close to the team” dropped another story, and the speculation machine just kept spinning. That’s when Eagles legend Seth Joyner finally had enough.

“Funny, every media person across the nation has a ‘SOURCE’ in the @Eaglesbuilding!” vented the former linebacker. “If it ain’t the #AJBrown trade talk, it’s the #JalenHurts is the problem! Everyone covering the @NFL has some insider knowledge or opinions! No you don’t, you ain’t got sh-t but click bait! STF up and let #Lurie & #Roseman make the moves they deem necessary to better the team! Everyday someone’s throwin shit against the wall hoping something sticks! For what, so you can say i told you so? Enough Geez.”
Joyner spent eight seasons at the Eagles in the 1980s and 1990s, winning two of his three career Pro Bowl honors there. Hence, he has come forward to defend his former team amid rumors surrounding the two key offensive players.
Brown has been playing at the Lincoln Financial Field since 2022, winning three Pro Bowls in his first three seasons with the franchise. However, his relationship with the team has reportedly deteriorated over time, with tension peaking during the Wild Card Game in the 2025 season when the wide receiver was visibly upset after a public rift with the coach, Nick Sirianni.

Moreover, the 28-year-old has a history of removing Eagles-related content from his social media, while he also previously posted cryptic messages when the team struggled, particularly amid the disappointing last season. He also reportedly had a conflict with the quarterback Jalen Hurts. Due to this situation, the WR has been linked to being traded.
On the contrary, Jalen Hurts has also been a topic of discussion this offseason. The recent speculation suggests that the QB has an internal friction at the Eagles, putting a serious question mark over his long-term future at the organization.
As per the sources, the 27-year-old has a specific preference about how he wants to play, making it hard to follow the offensive plan last season. He has been under scrutiny for opposing tactical changes in the offense, such as taking more snaps under the center and often altering play calls at the line of scrimmage.
The frequent changes of offensive coordinators of the Eagles clearly highlight Hurts’ lack of adaptability to the offensive modifications. Since arriving at the organization in 2020, he has played under five different offensive coordinators (HC Doug Pederson was the OC in 2020). Kevin Patullo was fired after an early playoff exit last season, and the Eagles will be hoping that he will adjust to new OC Sean Mannion’s play calls next season.
With questions lingering over the future of these two players at the Eagles, there have been reports regarding their future at the franchise.
Trade buzz surrounds AJ Brown, while Jalen Hurts’ performance stays under the microscope
AJ Brown‘s trade talk has been circulating since the beginning of the offseason, with the New England Patriots emerging as the potential suitor. They were the Super Bowl runner-up last season, and they need an elite receiver after the departure of Stefon Diggs. Mike Vrabel, the head coach of the Pats, recently did not rule out a possible trade of the Pro Bowler.
“We’re going to try to do everything we can to strengthen our roster through the draft, through free agency, multiple ways of player acquisition,” said Vrabel at the recent NFL Annual Meeting.
Moreover, Vrabel coached Brown when he was at the Tennessee Titans previously. On that basis, they are quite familiar with each other.
And for Hurts, he is the most expensive player of the franchise with a $255 million contract, which he extended in 2023. However, he had an average last season with 3,224 passing yards and 64% passing completion, which is expected to get better this season, alongside his adaptability.
However, recently, the idea of Jalen Hurts’ trade to the Cleveland Browns came up on the 92.3 The Fan podcast.
“A fifth-round pick for Tanner McKee or the (No.) 6 pick for Jalen Hurts?” pitched Nick Wilson, the podcast host.
Given the QB’s impressive resume, it would be too early to talk about his trade. Furthermore, his massive contract has a dead cap of $139 million. Hence, a possible trade talk like Brown’s is out of the question. But if his performance does not match the numbers on the gridiron next season, it could be a possibility amid the rumored internal conflict, just like the Miami Dolphins did with Tua Tagovailoa.
