According to the reports, the former Pro Bowl has deactivated his social media handles. His Instagram and X accounts are no longer accessible. This move by him strengthens the claims that he has decided to be away from the public eye to focus more on his mental well-being and take a huge reset in his career.

As Jay Glazer confirms on his X, writing, “Former Pro Bowl CB Jaire Alexander has decided to step away from football to try to focus on getting himself right physically and mentally before deciding on his future. Alexander informed the Eagles of his decision today @nflonfox has learned.”

The Eagles surely didn’t see it coming, as it comes just after ten days, when they sent a sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for cornerback Jaire Alexander and a seventh-round pick. However, Alexander has not yet played for the Eagles. He didn’t even travel with the team for their Week 10 road game against the Green Bay Packers, as they listed him out with a knee/ coach’s decision.

In 2025, he was on the field for only two games with the Baltimore Ravens, where he had five tackles. Once among the elite cornerbacks of the league, Alexander has been struggling to stay on the field for about last two years because of injuries. If we look at his 2023 and 2024 seasons, he played just seven games in total. After the 2024 stint, he was released by the Packers and signed a one-year deal with the Ravens.

With the Packers, he had his Pro Bowl performances, as he had a total of 12 interceptions with them. His best season came in 2022, when he recorded 56 tackles and five interceptions.

And now the Eagles got him through a trade, he decided to get some time off for his mental as well as physical recovery.

Eagles’ next move amid Alexander’s decision

The Eagles’ move to add Alexander looks justified on paper. He’s a player with experience as he played in 80 regular-season games and seven postseason games. In his NFL career, he has recorded 292 tackles. However, the cornerback is contemplating retirement; as reported by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, his move has surely come as a shock to the league. But looking at his past few years’ journey in the NFL, he needs time to self-reflect.

Even after the trade, the Eagles General Manager said, “I think when you talk about [him] still being a young guy, knowing where his health is at now, feeling healthy, feeling good, we felt like the risk was worth the reward with him.”

His statement confirms that despite his health condition, they went on to trust the process. However, with Jaire’s decision, the Eagles had to look around. Because they got him to fix the CB2 position. But with him not playing against the Packers, Adoree’ Jackson stepped up, and he did okay in the game. Adding a bit of cushion for the Eagles, Michael Carter is joining the roster as well.
