The Philadelphia Eagles were on a winning streak until they played the Denver Broncos this Sunday. Despite leading the game 17-3 in the third quarter, the Eagles lost the game 21-17, suffering their first defeat of the season. And while the entire team is accountable for the second-half collapse, it is the Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts who has come forward to take all the responsibility for the loss.

During the postgame presentation, Hurts admitted that it was his mistake that led to the loss and stated that he doesn’t know where the problem lies within the team.

“I can’t tell you what the issue is,: Hurts said. “Ultimately, I can take accountability for everything and take responsibility for it all. The lack of execution, the lack of the sense of urgency. I take responsibility for all of it, and I’m just trying to find solutions for it.”

As for the missed shot to A. J. Brown, the 27-year-old QB, said, “It’s about finding a way to put a dagger in them.”

The reason Hurts admitted he felt “clueless” was simple: the Eagles let a comfortable lead slip away and watched the game unravel. Going into the 4th quarter, the Eagles were soaring high with a 14-point lead. However, the Eagles committed costly penalties and went cold as the Broncos cleared the deficit and scored 18 consecutive points.

Hurt even mentioned that he takes responsibility, despite putting up a season-high 280 yards on 23-for-38 passing. The Eagles’ passing game cooled off in the second half of the game. In the second half, the Eagles had 19 more pass attempts, gaining only 119 yards, with the 47-yard Barkley touchdown being the only big play. And once they lost the lead, Philadelphia looked desperate in its own backyard. That desperation drive ended with Hurts’ incomplete pass into the end zone with 4 seconds left.

Even the penalties hurt the Eagles the most. Running back Saquon Barkley was called for an illegal shift. This gave the Broncos a first down at the Eagles’ 14 just before the 2-minute warning. With all these mistakes, it’s not surprising for Hurts to take the responsibility as he has done so in the past, even when the Eagles were undefeated.

Hurts doesn’t hide from taking responsibility

Earlier this season, in Week 2, when Philadelphia won two back-to-back games but the offense wasn’t anything near their 2024 form, Hurts stepped in and took the blame on himself. “I take accountability for a lot of it, because it’s my job,” the Eagles’ QB said after practice Wednesday. “My job is to go out there and be the general, orchestrate everything, and ultimately make plays. given the opportunities we had”

Even after winning two games, the Eagles were 29th in NFL yards per game, 30th in yards per play, 27th in passing yards per play, 20th in rushing yards per play, and 18th in first downs. So, it was not surprising when Jalen admitted to the struggles and took all the responsibility.

This is one of the biggest setbacks for the Eagles, as the last time the Broncos beat them in Philadelphia was in 1986. And all of this happened when the Eagles were riding high on their undefeated streak.
