The Philadelphia Eagles were roaring to go in their season against the Cowboys. But defensive tackle Jalen Carter went the extra mile, and in the heat of the moment, even before a snap was taken, he spat on quarterback Dak Prescott‘s jersey. It was enough to rile up the referees, who ejected him from the game. The NFL also went hard on him and fined him $57,222. Now, after all the fan backlash, Philly’s locker room leader, Jalen Hurts, also opened up on his stance.

Speaking to reporters on September 10, the Super Bowl LIX winner said, “I’ve already expressed my comments on it….I’ve already had that conversation with him, and so, we turned the page on that, and we’re all moving forward to this opportunity we have this week.” The next opportunity Jalen Hurts referred to is their week 2 game against the Chiefs.

Chiefs Kingdom at Arrowhead will definitely test their patience. And Patrick Mahomes & co. are already looking for their revenge and first win after losing to the Chargers. But the present scenario is that the Birds will have to tone down their aggression. Not only their QB, but even HC Nick Sirianni was not happy with the way things played out during the season opener. But he kept the matter under wraps.

The coach told The Athletic‘s Zach Berman, “Everything, every conversation, whether it’s a personal conversation, a disciplinary thing, all those things will always be handled privately. I just think that’s the way to go about doing team business.” But the real question lies deeper. Will the coach allow his tackle to play against the Chiefs, where things are expected to get hot?

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the “NFL is fining Eagles DT Jalen Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott. The league also says the game he was ejected for will serve as a one-game suspension.” This means Carter is available to play on Sunday, September 14, but there’s no certainty yet. Hence, although QB Jalen Hurts is excited, he doesn’t want to talk much or make outlandish remarks.

Jalen Hurts reveals his thoughts on the Chiefs’ game

When asked about the week 2 game in Arrowhead, the Eagles QB downplayed the intensity. He said, “It’s just another opportunity for us. You know, that’s been my approach on it. We got a lot that we can learn from this past week. We know we’re playing a really good team. It’s a new team, and we’re a new team, but just approaching it with that mentality and just taking really a day at a time with our preparation.” That’s right!

In the first game of the 2025 season, both teams looked far from their Super Bowl LIX version, which ended 40-22 in the Eagles’ favor. While the Chiefs lost 21-27 against the Chargers in Brazil, the Eagles had to fight hard to win 24-20 against America’s Team. But now, they are dealing with history, which started 3 years ago. So, instead of the teams, it’s more about Jalen Hurts vs Patrick Mahomes.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Jalen Carter's actions cross the line, or is this just part of the Eagles' fierce spirit?

Back in the 2022 season, the Chiefs defeated Philly in Super Bowl LVII and went on to have back-to-back SBs by winning Super Bowl LVIII. Last year, too, they were riding strong with a 15-2 regular-season record. But the Eagles dominated them rough in New Orleans early this year. The Grim Reaper also felt the sting when CB Cooper DeJean returned his interception for a 38-yard touchdown.

While the Kansas City-based franchise isn’t spitting venom, they also want revenge. And there wouldn’t be a better way to announce their preparation than to defeat the SB Champions. But as Jalen Hurts mentioned, both teams are new. The Birds are playing under new OC Kevin Patullo after Kellen Moore became the Saints HC. The Chiefs still face uncertainty in their WR group as Rashee Rice deals with a 6-game suspension and Xavier Worthy injured himself against the Chargers.

However, the excitement is building up. And as we move closer to Sunday, expect more comments that will rile up both sides.
