“If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.” A single tweet by Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown set off a chain of narratives around team chemistry and his future with the team.

When asked about the dynamic between the two, star quarterback Jalen Hurts kept it straightforward: “It’s good. … We share a great passion for this game, and we’re focused on this week.” So, is everything okay for the Eagles? Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio isn’t buying it.
Florio dissected the facial cues of Hurts and concluded that something didn’t quite add up. As Florio noted recently in a discussion with Michael Holley, “Mouth curls down, jaw clenches for an instant after he says it. – Can you imagine talking that way about somebody you liked? That’s how you talk about somebody you don’t like. You say as little as possible so you don’t create a problem for yourself and you move on.”

For Florio, that’s the language of locker-room diplomacy, the kind that hints at conflict instead of quelling it. He further offers a grim assessment of the situation.
“The bottom line is there’s an issue there. They’re doing their best to keep it under wraps.”

Across four games so far, AJ Brown only has 151 yards and a single touchdown with a total of 28 targets. He’s just averaging 3.5 catches per game on a 4-0 team that continues to bank more on his ground attack. On the other hand, there’s the public perception.

The Eagles are all too aware of how quickly bad optics can derail a season. The solution, as Michael Holley put it, will be simple: change the narrative.
“They will make sure that this story goes away. If they need to force the ball to AJ Brown, they will. – AJ Brown’s going to get the ball early. He’s going to get the ball often. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t have well over 6 catches in this game.”
So, what’s the verdict? Philly’s Week 5 against the Denver Broncos could hand AJ Brown the spotlight simply to stop the media narratives.
But even the best of offensive schemes tailors to target Brown can’t fix the underlying chemistry issue. Brown had voiced his concerns about his decreasing offensive role last season as well. And if this situation continues to spiral, the Eagles may be forced to cut ties with their receiver.
AJ Brown’s impending fallout?
League insiders aren’t blind to the tension. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler points out that even with Brown’s huge three-year, $96 million contract, the idea of a trade down the line is becoming “the worst-kept secret inside the league.”
The Eagles could take a cap hit and move on if things go too far. It won’t happen during the season, but the 2026 offseason could very well see Brown suiting up in new colors.
As Fowler noted recently, “Some execs I spoke to this week don’t expect Philadelphia to trade Brown in-season but said that it could be something to entertain in the offseason. It’s sort of the worst-kept secret inside the league that Brown’s love-hate relationship with Philly’s passing game bubbles to the surface from time to time. He’s a true competitor and wants to be great. With that comes emotion and inevitable frustration.”

Brown’s recent social media outburst had the crowds hinting at a trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers. If he gets more chances to show what he can do, moving to a new team could definitely be on the table.
So, what’s next? The Eagles are sitting at 4-0. They’re undefeated, but certainly, facing some challenges. Right now, Philly’s future might just depend on whether Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown can reignite that connection. All eyes will be on how the Eagles handle this in Week 5.
