It’s one thing for the media to critique a player, but it’s another when the criticism comes from a franchise icon and former teammate. NFL legend Jason Kelce didn’t hold back when breaking down AJ Brown’s difficult 2025 season, and his words highlight a major problem in the Philadelphia Eagles.

“He’s just unfortunately a player who allows his internal frustrations to manifest into his play, and it makes him play worse and makes the offense worse, and it makes his energy worse,” Kelce said, as per SportsRadio 94WIP. “Some guys can block that out; they go out there and just play football. He is clearly not one of those guys.”

In total, AJ Brown finished the year with 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. However, the veteran receiver made headlines for his off-field comments, expressing his discontent with Philadelphia’s offense as a whole. Furthermore, he also faced criticism throughout the season for poor blocking effort and concentration drops.

Continuing this theme into the playoffs, Brown committed multiple drops, also being involved in a heated exchange with head coach Nick Sirianni during Philadelphia’s 23-19 wild-card playoff loss. Addressing these concerns, Jason Kelce described the 28-year-old’s conduct as frustrating and detrimental to the team’s chemistry. However, as these comments led to speculation about Kelce making a possible dig at Brown, the franchise legend took to X to issue a clarification.

“That was the point I was attempting to say. That was the purpose of this response, and I worded it poorly. I love AJ Brown, I loved him as a teammate, and I think if he ends up getting traded, the Eagles and fans will end up regretting it majorly,” Kelce tweeted.

Eagles to entertain trade packages for AJ Brown after difficult 2025 season

As the Philadelphia Eagles look to enter the 2026 season as Super Bowl contenders, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the 2025 Super Bowl champions are set to discuss a possible trade for AJ Brown if they receive offers through this offseason.

“Some people I’ve talked to around the league, some executives from other teams do expect that the Eagles will at least entertain a trade for AJ Brown, who was unhappy in numerous fronts,” Fowler said during his appearance on Get Up. “I mean, name the counts where he looked like he was miserable out there. His body languague wasn’t good. So something has to give. That’s sort of the feeling right now.”

Furthermore, Jeremy Fowler explained how the Eagles could move forward with their offense if they part ways with AJ Brown.

“They could build around DeVonta Smith and some other pieces, [Saquon Barkley], maybe add a wide receiver. So, he would create a haul for the Eagles if they do go that route,” Fowler said.

After three successful and one tumultuous season for the Eagles, amassing 339 receptions for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns in 62 regular-season games, it appears that AJ Brown’s tenure in Philadelphia could soon be over.
