The Philadelphia Eagles hit a new low on Thursday night, and one of their own legends didn’t hold back. Following a brutal sequence that saw rookie running back Cam Skattebo bulldoze through veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, social media exploded, led by none other than former Eagles star. His fiery comments have sparked debate across the NFL world and reignited concerns about Philly’s once-vaunted defense.

LeSean McCoy, never one to mince words, took to X after the embarrassing moment went viral. “It’s time to RETIRE, come on bro… this crazy super SOFT WOW,” he posted, tagging a clip of Skattebo’s powerful run through Jackson. The play quickly became the symbol of Philadelphia’s 34–17 loss to the New York Giants, their second consecutive defeat after starting the season 4-0. For a defense that once prided itself on toughness, this was a reality check few saw coming.

The play in question happened when Giants running back Cam Skattebo, bulldozed through Zack Baun and Adoree’ Jackson on a third-quarter 1-yard touchdown that gave the Giants a surprising 10-point lead. On the play, Jackson’s tackle attempt appeared half-hearted, using just his shoulder instead of wrapping up, as the rookie powered into the end zone.
However, Jackson didn’t start in this matchup; he joined when Quinyon Mitchell got out with a hamstring injury. Along with this careless move of letting Cam go, he finished with seven tackles.

With him, cornerback Kelee Ringo, Jackson’s coverage struggles have become increasingly evident, with both corners repeatedly exposed. Ringo’s showing was so poor that he was reportedly benched in the second half, even with Mitchell sidelined.
The Giants, 7½-point underdogs with a 4-19 record against the Eagles over their last 23 meetings and sitting at 1-4 this season, pulled off a stunning 34-17 upset of the defending Super Bowl champions on Thursday night.
The Eagles, who showed flashes of promise early, led 17-13 late in the second quarter. But over the next 22½ minutes, they were outscored 21-0 and out-gained in the second half, unraveling in a familiar collapse.
After two back-to-back losses, the Eagles find themselves at a crossroads. The strong 4-0 start now looks lost. Last week, they let a 14-point lead slip away from them, which cost them that game. With Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, and Mitchell all sidelined, the Eagles’ defense looks vulnerable in ways fans haven’t seen in years.
But the problems don’t stop there. The offense, once again, that looked promising was lost in the second half. The Eagles had 17 points in the first half. Later in the second half, they collapsed badly.
However, the Giants’ rookie stole all the limelight.
Cam Skattebo’s breakout game
While the Eagles spiraled, the night belonged to Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo. The 22-year-old helped New York’s offense with 98 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries with an impressive average of 5.2 yards per attempt. He also added two receptions for 12 yards.
He handled the bulk of the workload with confidence and physicality, scoring each of the Giants’ final three touchdowns. His four-yard burst just before halftime gave New York the momentum, and he later punctuated drives with one-yard plunges in both the third and fourth quarters. Skattebo’s power running not only punished Philadelphia’s defense but also showcased his growing role in Brian Daboll’s offensive system.
Skattebo’s defining moment came late in the fourth quarter when he effectively sealed the game. On a drive that consumed the final six minutes and fifty seconds, he carried the ball with authority, chewing up 44 yards and draining the Eagles’ hopes of a comeback. It was the kind of performance that instantly elevates a rookie’s reputation, poised, punishing, and impossible to bring down.

Heading into Week 7, the Giants may have found their answer in the backfield. Skattebo now leads the team in rushing touchdowns and looks every bit the workhorse back they hoped he’d become. He’ll face another test next week against the Denver Broncos, but if Thursday’s showing was any indication, the rookie isn’t just filling a role; he’s changing the narrative of the Giants’ offense.
As for the Eagles, LeSean McCoy’s harsh words may have stung, but they reflect what many fans are feeling: this once-dominant defense has lost its bite. And unless Adoree’ Jackson and the rest of Philly’s secondary can rediscover their edge, moments like Skattebo’s highlight run might become all too familiar.
