When it comes to football, Eli Manning may not be on the same level as Patrick Mahomes. But there’s one arena where Manning beats Mahomes. And that’s soccer. Manning is a part owner of the women’s soccer team, Gotham FC. And that happens to be the team that represents the city of New York. And Manning played 16 seasons with the Giants. On the other hand, Mahomes also owns a pie of Kansas City Current, the soccer team that represents the Chiefs’ home Kansas.

The official Instagram page of Gotham FC posted a video of Manning throwing an open challenge to Mahomes. He challenged, “Hey Mahomes, you may have one more of these than me. Gotham FC had won the 2023 league championship. Kansas City Current, however, is yet to win any. If KC City is to win, maybe Mahomes could look for a lucky charm for his team, like his underwear lucky charm.

Patrick Mahomes playfully confirmed the swirling rumors, sharing with Peyton and Eli Manning, “First, my wife Brittany got them for me, so I’m not throwin’ y’all down, but I have to wear ’em, ya know.” It all began back in 2017, a season that marked a turning point for Mahomes and the Chiefs. “At the same time, I threw ’em on that first season [and] we had a pretty good season that season,” he reflected, attributing a part of their success to this unique ritual.

With a twinkle in his eye, Mahomes assured, “I only wear ’em for game day, though,” dispelling any concerns about their condition. He quipped about their upkeep, “I clean ’em. I wash ’em. Every once in a while, at least.” Mahomes’ story is a charming reminder that even the giants of the game have their little quirks. After all, who’s to question the methods of one of the NFL’s greatest stars, especially when they’ve helped him win three Super Bowls?
