There’s a new rise and celebration in Mahomes family’s life! “I would like to Thank my God, wife, family and friends for 6 months on the sunny side of the road.” Patrick Mahomes’ father, MLB pitcher Patrick Mahomes Sr. said this about a couple of days ago, after achieving a sobriety milestone. Now, his ex-girlfriend, Anika Cooper also celebrates the same feat with a powerful message.

On August 7, 2024, Cooper shared a post on her official Instagram account. She uploaded a filtered photo of herself with a beautiful smile, along with a powerful and emotional story about her battle with addiction. Informing people who are suffering from alcohol and other substance abuse, Cooper wrote: “I remember it like it was yesterday. 29 years ago today my life changed….Thank you to God and my mom for loving me and pulling me out of the pits of hell!” She recalled that time when she was at rock bottom, weighing only 85 pounds, and addicted to “methamphetamine.” Mom of Zoe Mahomes further added that after a two-week binge, she was desperate for more, and didn’t even care about her self-destructive path, losing everything.
Sharing her heartbreaking journey, Cooper mentioned that without knowing it at the time, she believed God was looking out for her. She somehow made it to her grandmother’s house, where her mother found her. And then on her 19th birthday, her mom and stepdad offered to take her shopping, but instead, they went to a treatment center to admit Cooper. Pat Sr’s former girlfriend also said that after spotting where they were going, she tried to jump out of the moving car. However, being extremely weak, she didn’t get that far.

While narrating the incident, Cooper also remembered telling her mom she hated her, to which her mom replied, “I would rather you hate me than to watch you die.” And now, Cooper is free from alcohol and any other substance. For this, she credits God and her mom for saving her life and loving her so much.
Now her daughter, Zoe Mahomes, too joined her in fighting this battle of the suffering people in the community. The budding young footballer also shared her mom’s post as her IG story, and wrote, “There is hope!! If my mom can do it so can you!!! Reach out if your struggling!!”

Well, that was an inspiring story of Cooper, but interestingly, another member of the Mahomes family fell into those “pits of hell,” too, fighting back to sobriety.

Patrick Mahomes tributed his father on the day of the Super Bowl!
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ father Pat Mahomes Sr., achieved a major personal milestone about two days ago, i.e. six months of sobriety. The former MLB pitcher shared this news on Instagram, thanking his God, wife (Trisha Mahomes), family, and friends for their support in his difficult journey. In February, just before his son’s Super Bowl appearance, Mahomes Sr. faced another DWI arrest. That marked his third offense, following a 40-day sentence in 2019 due to DWI cases.

And while Patrick Mahomes hasn’t commented publicly on his sobriety period, it’s known that he would be happy to hear his father quitted drinking. This is because, after winning the Super Bowl LVIII in February, he dedicated the trophy to his father. In an on-field interview after the matchup, Mahomes said, “My dad just got arrested for his 3rd DWI so I wanted to honor him by winning my 3rd Super Bowl. This one was for him.”
