Is Jerry Jones the king of cool or out of touch? Jerry’s the guy who’s known for many things: a larger-than-life persona, deep-rooted Dallas Cowboys love, and a knack for making headlines. But his latest take on CeeDee Lamb‘s contract extension? Oh boy, you don’t wanna miss this one out. 

In a recent tweet dropped by UnSportsESPN, former Cowboys DE Chris Canty didn’t mince words. “It’s goofy the way Jerry Jones has laid [contract negotiations] out now, especially with key players like CeeDee Lamb,” Canty asserted. “As a former player, I’ve never seen or heard of a player thinking that this money was a laughing matter. And here you are, the owner of the team, laughing about a guy that is holding out, trying to get a new contract.” The Cavaliers’ champ called Jones’ approach ‘goofy’, saying it’s unprofessional for a franchise’s owner to laugh off serious contract talks. 

Lamb, fresh off a monster season with 135 catches and 1,749 yards, is in the last year of his $17.99M deal. This Oklahoma standout is holding out for a contract that matches his status as one of the league’s top receivers. But Jones, ever the optimist, seems unfazed. “I don’t have a sense of urgency about getting it done,” the Big D’s owner said, pretty unconcerned. “Put any reason you want. I was at Nobu two days ago. Give that as the reason. Whatever you want to put out there.”

While Jones is playing it cool, the pressure’s mounting. The Minnesota Vikings just handed Justin Jefferson a massive deal worth $140M, setting a new market for wide receivers. And with Lamb’s contract expiring after this season, the clock’s ticking, and Big D’s gotta act fast. 

So, Jerry’s all chill about CeeDee Lamb’s contract, but Cowboys’ EVP Stephen Jones just threw a wrench in that plan with comments that say the exact opposite.

Contradicting Jerry’s statements, Stephen Jones pushes hard for Lamb’s deal

While Jerry’s been saying there’s no rush on Lamb’s new deal, his son Stephen Jones is singing a different tune. Big D’s EVP has been out there pushing hard to get Lamb’s contract sorted. 

On The Doomsday Podcast with host Ed Werder, Stephen Jones reassured fans that they’re not sitting on their hands. “We think the world of CeeDee and understand his position. We’re working hard to get this deal done,” he said. When it comes to extending key players like Lamb, Dak Prescott, and Micah Parsons, Stephen emphasized, “We plan on doing it. We want all three players here. We have the best chance of winning a championship by having those players on our roster.” 

So, what’s the deal? Is Jerry just playing games with his players and the fan base, or will he give out a contract soon? Here’s hoping Lamb’s situation wraps up smoother because he’s crucial for Prescott and the Cowboys’ success.
