Ex-NFL Player Reveals How Josh Allen & Bills Could End Patrick Mahomes’ Win Streak to Clinch Championship

The Buffalo Bills just can’t seem to do it. Despite having one of the best quarterbacks in the league, they seem to keep falling short. They managed to make it to the playoffs. They also triumphed over Kenny Pickett and Co., in the Wild Card Round. But then their march ahead was stopped short by Patrick Mahomes and Co. Josh Allen fell to his bitter foe in the Divisional Round.
They have been “knocking, and knocking, and knocking” at the door, but only one man and his team stand in their way. But with the recent moves that the team has been making, one former NFL player thinks that their good times are coming.

According to Damien Woody, “When you have Josh Allen who’s one of the three best quarterbacks, your window is never closed.” But of course, Allen can’t do it alone. He needs a team that complements his strengths. And the Bills seem to be lacking in that over the last few seasons. But Woody thinks they are now on the right track.

After “parting ways with so many players who meant a lot to the organization”, the team could finally “retool”. But the team’s willingness to even release veteran players shows that they are serious about their goals and have their priorities set for the upcoming season.

In a surprising turn of events, the Bills made the tough decision to let go of some of their key players, a move aimed at freeing up some much-needed cap space right before the free agency period kicks off. In the mix of players shown the door were center Mitch Morse, safety Jordan Poyer, and it looks like CB Tre’Davious White might be joining them soon.

Morse, who’s been a rock for the Bills’ offensive line since joining in 2019, has clocked in 77 appearances over five seasons and even snagged a spot in the 2022 Pro Bowl. Despite having a year left on his contract, his departure is still gonna cost the Bills a $3 million in cap space this year. Poyer, who really came into his own after signing with Buffalo in 2017, has been around the block since 2013. Yet, his exit is set to set the Bills back by $2 million in cap space in 2024.
Then there’s White, snagged by the Bills in the first round back in 2017, who’s racked up three All-Pro selections and two Pro Bowl appearances during his time in Buffalo. With two years still left on his contract, the Bills are planning a strategic move by designating him as a post-June 1 cut, a scoop by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This maneuver is expected to boost Buffalo’s cap space by $10.2 million, a significant leap from the $6 million if done now. The Bills are hopeful that all these changes will boost their chances in 2024.
