The potential No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft has been making quite some noise before even entering the National Football League. It’s common knowledge at this point that Jayden Daniels is coming in hot this season and will most probably join the Washington Commanders as their starting Quarterback. He recently had a 30 visit with Adam Peters and Co., which quickly gained attention in the league.

Now, just days before his first team gets decided in the league, the LSU QB sat down for an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. He talked about his drive, his passion for the game, and who he seeks inspiration from. More importantly, Daniels already has his eyes set on future rivals as his dream to join the NFL is just about to come true.

In the exclusive interview, the Heisman winner was specifically asked a competition-focused question, enquiring, “Any quarterbacks, you kind of modeling game after? Anybody you’re kind of looking forward to even playing against in the league once you come in?” Daniels mentioned two of the most prominent quarterbacks in the league and hopes to go head-to-head with them.

“CJ Stroud,” said Daniels and added, “I want to play CJ at some point, and Lamar.” Yet, despite stating his competition in the next phase of his career, it was evident from how the LSU QB mentioned in the interview earlier that he isn’t modeling his game after anyone as Daniels places importance on his individuality. He also takes pride in his “ability to make plays outside the pocket,” and feels confident about his passing and running skills as well.

Even though the LSU quarterback often draws comparisons to Lamar Jackson in aspects of his running game, when asked, “What aspects of his [Lamar Jackson’s] game do you admire or seek to emulate?” Daniels reiterated his point of individual qualities.

“I don’t really emulate what he does, uh, he’s Lamar, I’m Jayden. So, he’s one of one, I’m one of one,” Daniels told EssentiallySports and added, “But I just see just his leadership, his passion for the game, how much he has fun out there.”

Though Daniels is not exactly following in Lamar Jackson’s footsteps, he acknowledges how Jackson rose through his struggle and became 2x MVP. In the same spirit, we asked Daniels about him being possibly among the top names in the upcoming drafts and his view on the same.

Daniels opens up about his hidden side

EssentiallySports asked Daniels about him being placed at “What’s one thing that teams can’t see on film that you want them to know?” Daniels pointed out the competitive side of himself across various activities that he participates in, however big or small.

How competitive I am. You know the competitive edge that I have like, even if I play video games or I’m just playing board games or something like that,” said Daniels and added, “I don’t like to lose. That’s something that you can’t see on film, you’ve got to see it in person.”

The competitive edge that Daniels talks about is reflected when he said that he’s looking forward to playing against CJ Stroud, who was 2023’s second overall pick. He was in the same situation as Jayden Daniels is in right now. Daniels trying to draw parallels with Stroud might just become one of the most exciting rivalries in the upcoming season.
