The Atlanta Falcons handled the Washington Commanders decisively at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, their home turf. Now they have set their sight on another big win, against the Buffalo Bills on Monday. This time, they’re against the reigning MVP, Josh Allen. Coming off a long break since their week 4 victory, it looks like the Falcons have done their homework and found the perfect antidote for the Bills’ star quarterback.

“The Falcons and Mercedes-Benz Stadium announce the roof will be OPEN for Bills at Falcons on Monday Night Football,” a Bills reporter posted on X. The Falcons play in a dome, but they have now decided to “open” the roof for the match against the Bills. Why? A dome has favoured Josh Allen in the past.

He has an 11-4 record with a 314 of 473 passes for 3817 yards in domes. Allen carried the ball 109 times for 603 yards and 13 touchdowns in his 15 regular-season games in a dome.

Allen’s dome story stretches back to 2021 at Caesars Superdome against the New Orleans Saints. He was locked in that night, managing 4 touchdowns with a dominant 31-6 victory. Then, during the 2022 season, the Bills played two straight dome games. Their home clash against the Browns got moved to Ford Field in Detroit because of a snowstorm. A week later, he returned to Detroit, where he threw 2 touchdowns, including that unforgettable pass to Stefon Diggs.

Back in 2024, with a loss against the Rams and a victory against the Lions, Allen lit it up with 10 total touchdowns, 854 yards, and zero turnovers in back-to-back road games. But this isn’t the case in every dome game. One of his worst season outings last year came against the Texans in a dome, the NRG Stadium, where he completed just 9 passes and threw a single touchdown. To overcome such situations, the Bills have come up with a $2.2 billion plan, which can even break their Super Bowl curse as they build a fortress in New York.

Bills’ $2.2 billion plan to end the Super Bowl curse

The Buffalo Bills have never lifted the Lombardi trophy in the history of the franchise. Their dreams of a Super Bowl appearance have been crushed by the Kansas City Chiefs four times in the playoffs, with the latest coming in the 2024 season. Josh Allen remains one of the most gifted players in the NFL, but despite his massive $330 million contract, he has yet to step on the biggest stage.

Buffalo fans know that pain, too. The Bills made it to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances in the early 1990s and lost every single one of them. But there’s a ray of hope for the fans as well as the desperate front desk. It lies in the Bills’ brand-new $2.2 billion Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, which can be a key to finally breaking the long-standing curse.

The new stadium will feature a canopy circling the top of the roof, shielding roughly 50% of its 62,000 fans from the uncertain Buffalo weather. Beneath it, the exterior will be wrapped in perforated steel panels designed to slow the wind and direct it up and over the field. Architects believe that this will create an “air bubble” effect to help keep the temperatures up, a hidden advantage for the players.

The design even draws inspiration from the Green Bay Packers, with wireless heating and irrigation systems. If all goes according to plan, the construction will be wrapped up by July 2026. But for now, all eyes are on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium that might pose a challenge to Allen with its open roof.
