Before getting off the field, he had one catch for 15 yards in the first half. Mooney had almost missed the entire training camp with a shoulder injury. However, it now appears that there is some good news regarding the Falcons’ wide receiver.

Today, NFL’s insider Ian Rapoport tweeted “#Falcons WR Darnell Mooney suffered a hamstring injury yesterday in Atlanta’s win. But with the bye coming up, it’s likely that he doesn’t have to miss any games, sources say”. This means that despite the injury, Mooney will be back for the week 6, Tuesday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Although Mooney will make a return without missing a game, the Falcons have no reason to rush Mooney back on the gridiron, as they have no games in Week 5. This means, despite the less severe injury, the veteran WR will get a full week to rest, and the team will also have proper time to evaluate his situation.

It’s been more than 24 hours since Mooney’s injury, but the updates are not as clear as they should have been. Why? Because even HC Raheem Morris didn’t say much about it.

When reporters asked Morris about updates regarding Mooney’s injury, he said he had no new information on Mooney beyond what had already been reported. It seemed that the team was in no rush to provide an update regarding the severity. However, we now have some clarity after Rapoport’s tweet.

Darnell Mooney’s X factor and other injuries on the list

Mooney was entering the game against the Commanders with six receptions on 15 targets for 64 yards in the 2025 NFL season. He was averaging 32.0 yards per game. Despite injuries, Mooney was expected to be a potential X-factor against the Commanders.

When Mooney left the ground, the Falcons were leading the game 17-1,0, and the void left by him in the offense was clearly visible. Although the team managed to win the game, 34-27 but there were other players added to the injured list as well.

In the same game, two other players were ruled out due to injury. The first one was tight end Feleipe Franks, who was ruled out due to an arm injury, and he didn’t return to the game. The second player to join the list was cornerback Natrone Brooks, who suffered a concussion and was also ruled out. There are no updates regarding both these players.

Although the injury list has extended after the game against the Commanders, the good thing for the Falcons is that they have a bye in week 5. This will give all the players time to rest, including Mooney.
