After a loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Atlanta Falcons have a challenging stretch ahead as they gear up to meet the New England Patriots. Amid the pressure, head coach Raheem Morries has received a concerning update on his backup quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The 37-year-old is reportedly looking for the QB no. 1 opportunity, as per Tyler Dragon’s report. However, the reporter added that the team isn’t up for making any such trades yet. Now, some believe Cousins’ old home, the Minnesota Vikings, might be the destination.
With veteran QB Carson Wentz out for his injury, the Vikings might turn to a new addition while their starting QB, J.J. McCarthy, recovers from a high-ankle sprain, which he sustained in Week 2 against Atlanta. However, McCarthy has begun to look healthy. So, the Vikings might let the 22-year-old take the reins in Week 9.

As for the veteran QB, he has spent more than 5 years with the Vikings and was impressive as a starter. He had racked up 18 touchdowns before going down with his season-ending torn Achilles injury in a game against the Green Bay Packers in 2023. Following this, he signed a $180 million contract with the Falcons as he didn’t like the Vikings’ contract.

However, things didn’t turn out as the veteran had expected. The Falcons acquired Michael Penix Jr. the same year, which may have added to the pressure. He was benched in favor of the then-rookie QB after his underwhelming performance of 16 interceptions in 14 games.
So, while the Vikings might not be the answer if he is looking for the QB 1 position, there are some other teams that might be interested. But before that, the QB must prove that he will be able to lead as a starter. This season, he got the chance to prove himself when he started against the Dolphins after Penix Jr. went down with an injury.
While he finished the game with 21 of 31 passes for 173 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions, the team was handed a 34-10 loss by the then 1-6 Dolphins (now 2-6). This was a decent performance, but would it convince the 31 other teams to acquire the veteran as their starter? Not sure!
As for the Falcons, there’s a positive update on their injured players.

The Atlanta Falcons will have their injured players return
Several of the Falcons’ players were down with injuries in Week 8. The starting QB suffered a bone bruise injury in his left knee during the 20-10 loss against the San Francisco 49ers. He will reportedly return for the game in Week 9.
He isn’t the only one. Wide receiver Drake London, who also missed the last game, is expected to return. The WR was dealing with his hip issues. Both linebacker Jalon Walker and defensive lineman Billy Bowman Jr. missed the last two games. They were listed as day to day.
However, both are expected to show up in the game against the Patriots. Ahead of the game, the Falcons also dropped a new depth chart with several changes. Ronnie Harrison replaced Divine Deablo at linebacker, and Jordan Fuller joined the safety group, as the team looks to regain balance on both sides of the ball.
The new update is understandable, considering the big matchups the Falcons have this year.
