The San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons will face each other off at Levi’s Stadium. But before they do, injuries loom large for the team. The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their preparation by releasing their final injury report. Defensively, the team has taken major hits with defensive tackle Kevin Givens (pectoral), cornerback Renardo Green (neck), and cornerback Upton Stout (shoulder), all listed as questionable for the upcoming matchup.

The 49ers activated Givens from injury reserve on Saturday, while Stout’s name appeared as a new addition to the injury list. Head coach Kyle Shanahan shared that Stout hurt his ankle on the final play of Thursday’s practice. Adding to this, Noah Furtoado of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Stout is questionable to play after suffering that ankle injury.

Not to mention, lineman Yetur Gross-Matos (knee/hamstring) has also been ruled out, which increases the defensive concerns for the team. Atlanta has got other things to cheer about apart from San Francisco being short defensively.

Besides these questionable players, the 49ers are also dealing with a couple of offensive setbacks heading into week 7. Quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) remains off the active list. But this time, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall officially joins his quarterback as he sustains a knee injury. But the Falcons are dealing with injuries of their own.

Week 7 won’t be a cakewalk for Atlanta

Before Atlanta fans celebrate Purdy’s absence, the Falcons have plenty of problems of their own.

The team has officially ruled out rookie defensive end Jalon Walker and safety Billy Bowman Jr., both dealing with soft tissue injuries. This marks the second straight game Bowman will miss and the first for Walker. Bowman, who recovers from a hamstring injury, and Walker, who is dealing with a groin injury, both are expected to return in week 8. Not to mention, Darnell Mooney, who continues to recover from his hamstring injury that kept him out for week 6 against the Buffalo Bills. But the clouds of concerns still loom over the Falcons.

Adding to Atlanta’s concerns, starting left tackle Jake Matthews, who exited week 6’s win with an ankle injury, remains on the injury list. Mathews missed Thursday’s practice but was limited in Friday’s practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup.

Atlanta has also ruled Ray-Ray McCloud out for Sunday’s game. He did not participate all week.

“I sent him home,” head coach Raheem Morris said Friday. “An excused absence. We are working through some things that are private with the young man, and we will get those things figured out.” Many think that the situation is related to the recent firing of former wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard. But coach Morris cleared the air around the speculations.

“This is between Ray-Ray, the organization, and us,” Morris said. “… I wouldn’t say it is a disciplinary thing. More of a football thing with something we have to get straightened out.”

Given the nature of injuries, both teams will be put to the test. But how they adapt to these setbacks could ultimately decide the outcome in this pivotal matchup.
