Some pairings never go out of style. Peanut butter and jelly, strawberries and cream, pancakes and maple syrup, and – of course – a good quarterback and his receiver. It’s official folks, Davante Adams is going to be reunited with Aaron Rodgers. It took a long time coming, but the Las Vegas Raiders have finally traded their star receiver to the New York Jets. In other excellent news, Adams appears to be recovering from his hamstring injury and could return to practice this week.

Drake London, receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, recently weighed in. “I mean, there are your killer couple to start with. So to go out there when they also have Garrett Wilson to pair with that. Lazard and all them is going to be really really scary, so I’m happy for him and happy for the Jets. They’re going to be a real killer squad,” the young receiver said. And he’s right, the Jets’ offensive squad is coming together really nicely right now, after the disappointing start to their season.

After all, Adams and Rodgers were for sure a killer couple back in the day. They spent eight years together at the Green Bay Packers before they got split up. Over that period of time, Adams caught a whopping 615 passes from Rodgers for 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns. They were consistently one of the best pairings in the league and were a force to reckon with. Will they be able to recreate the magic with the Jets?

Well, with Robert Saleh out and Jeff Ulbrich taking over, the Jets might be hoping the seasoned pair will be able to lead the offense without much handholding. A veteran quarterback-receiver pairing who can build an offense around themselves is just what they need right now.

Why did Davante Adams’ transfer take so long?

If you’ve had your ear to the ground, then you knew that the New York Jets were always Adams’ the preferred trade destination. So why’d it take so long? And why was Aaron Rodgers so cryptic about it? Well, for starters, the Las Vegas Raiders set out with a high asking price. They wanted whoever took him to pay him for the entirety of the rest of the season.

No small ask when you remember he was signed to the highest ever contract for a wide receiver at the time, $140 million for 5 years in 2022. But the Jets have now agreed to pay the price and more, with a conditional third round draft pick. For a currently injured wide receiver in his 30s, you can’t call it a steal. The negotiations were long and laborious, but this is where they’ve brought us. We’re sure the Jets will hope this “killer couple” can take the team to new heights.
