Once you’re in the NFL world, it’s almost impossible to leave it behind. Whether you’re a fan, player, or analyst, there’s always something pulling you back. For players especially, walking away from the league has to be one of the hardest things to do. What do NFL players do after retiring from the league? The most common answer is finding a broadcasting gig, and that’s exactly what former Ravens player Robert Griffin III did.

After parting ways with the Ravens in 2021, Griffin signed with ESPN. However, in August this year, something unexpected happened, ESPN fired the former Ravens QB due to budget issues. This move by ESPN caught him off guard. But his time away from the spotlight didn’t last long. Griffin landed a new gig, this time with Netflix. Breaking the exciting news on his X account, he wrote, Oh we BACK @netflix. All Glory to God.”

Along with Robert Griffin III, Netflix has signed Kay Adams, Mina Kimes, Manti Te’o, and Drew Brees for its Christmas Day NFL doubleheader. During his ESPN days, Robert Griffin III was a familiar face on Monday Night Countdown, teaming up with Steve Young, Booger McFarland, and Adam Schefter. He also brought his energy to College Football broadcasts. Getting let go by ESPN was a shocker for him, but that didn’t let it hold him back. He stayed open to new opportunities and is now back in the game with a fresh gig.

Also known as RG3, after parting ways with ESPN, Robert Griffin III kept himself busy with his podcast ‘Outta Pocket with RG3.’ He also stays connected with his fans by posting fun TikToks with his wife, Grete Griffin. The couple has four daughters, and on Thanksgiving, the former Ravens QB shared an emotional post on Instagram featuring a clip from his podcast with his wife and kids.

Was Robert Griffin III fired because of Jason Kelce?

Right after ESPN made the decision to fire Robert Griffin III, rumors circulated that they did so to replace him with Jason Kelce. Kelce took over ‘Monday Night Countdown‘ right after the former Ravens QB left. Although Griffin did not officially comment on his firing. He shared a cryptic post on his X a few days later. “There are people in your circle saying they want you to win, but doing everything they can to make you lose. Don’t be afraid to cut people off when they keep handing you the scissors’, he wrote.

Well, nobody can say if it’s directed towards Jason or not. But the fact is that both Robert and Kelce share the same circle, being in the NFL. Kelce debuted in the NFL in 2011 with the Eagles and played for them until his retirement in early 2024. Since then, he has been trying his hand at various things, from reality shows to podcasts.

Now, whether the firing was because ESPN wanted to cut costs or for other reasons that’s unknown. But fans think there was something definitely fishy about it. But anyway, now that Robert is soon going to be on a Netflix show, everything seems to be working out!
