For several teams, the final 72 hours before the bell marked a clear dividing line between chasing playoff glory or accepting a rebuild.

Let’s break down how the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars reshaped their postseason hopes, and what their moves mean for the rest of the season.

After shockingly trading away superstar linebacker Micah Parsons to Green Bay before the season, the Cowboys are learning that some mistakes can’t be undone.

With Dak Prescott leading one of the league’s top offenses and newcomer George Pickens thriving, Dallas can score with anyone, but they simply can’t stop anyone.

Defensively, the Cowboys have been abysmal, and Jerry Jones made defense the priority at the deadline. Unfortunately, the results fell short.

Dallas added Quinnen Williams from the Jets for Maxi Smith, a move that might’ve been headline-worthy a few years ago but now feels like a reach. They also traded for Logan Wilson from Cincinnati, a solid addition but hardly the kind of needle-moving acquisition they needed.

Playoff Fate Before the Deadline: Still in the hunt, but shaky.
After the Deadline: Dallas’ defensive woes remain glaring. Without a dramatic turnaround, another postseason miss feels inevitable.

Indianapolis Colts: A Game-Changing Power Move

After an ugly loss to Pittsburgh, critics wondered if the Colts’ early-season magic was fading. But the stumble might’ve been nothing more than a blip.

Daniel Jones has been a revelation in his first season with the team, while Jonathan Taylor looks like an MVP candidate. Add in head coach Shane Steichen’s tactical brilliance, and Indy’s revival has been one of the league’s best stories.

Then came the move that could define their season: acquiring Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets. The two-time All-Pro cornerback gets a fresh start, and the Colts fill their biggest defensive void with an elite talent who’s still only 25. It’s a perfect fit, and potentially the deal of the year.

Playoff Fate Before the Deadline: Division favorite, sneaky contender.
After the Deadline: Legitimate Super Bowl threat. The Gardner deal might have pushed them into powerhouse territory.

Seattle Seahawks: Doubling Down on the Darnold Era

Few saw this coming: Sam Darnold as an MVP candidate in 2025. But after a string of dominant performances, including a statement win over Washington, the Seahawks have become one of the NFC’s most dangerous teams.

Rather than patching holes, Seattle chose to amplify its strength: Darnold’s passing attack. The team traded for Rashid Shaheed from New Orleans, a young deep threat whose talent was wasted amid the Saints’ quarterback carousel.

In Seattle, surrounded by Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, Shaheed should thrive and stretch defenses even further. The Seahawks’ offense, already humming, just got even scarier.

Playoff Fate Before the Deadline: NFC West division title contender.
After the Deadline: Serious NFC title threat. Seattle’s air raid looks unstoppable.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Minor Move, Marginal Impact

Once a trendy AFC pick, the Jaguars have struggled to find rhythm this season. The acquisition of Jakobi Meyers from Las Vegas provides Trevor Lawrence with another reliable target, especially with rookie star Travis Hunter sidelined.

Meyers brings professionalism and route-running savvy, but this move feels more like a Band-Aid than a breakthrough. The Colts have surged ahead in the AFC South, and Jacksonville’s inconsistencies, on both sides of the ball, continue to hold them back.

Playoff Fate Before the Deadline: Fringe contender.
After the Deadline: Slightly improved, but still a step behind the AFC elite.

Teams That Didn’t Make Moves: Steelers & Patriots

The Pittsburgh Steelers are far from perfect at this point in the 2025 NFL season. Even though Aaron Rodgers has seemingly held off Father Time for a bit longer, the Steelers still could’ve made a move or two to upgrade on both sides of the football.

However, the storied franchise chose to stand pat, and it might not have a huge impact on their season unless injuries start to pile up. Pittsburgh is currently sitting atop the AFC North division standings with a record of 5-3. It has a good chance of winning the division crown unless the Baltimore Ravens have a second-half surge with Lamar Jackson back under center.

As for the New England Patriots, new head coach Mike Vrabel has this team firing on all cylinders, with six straight wins to start the 2025 campaign. Second-year quarterback Drake Maye looks like the real deal while making a case to be the NFL MVP, as he’s taken his game to another level entirely.

With the Patriots being one of the hottest teams in the league right now, New England likely felt it was a situation where, if it’s not broken, then why fix it?

It may be the smart move for the Patriots, who are in first place in the AFC East division at 7-2, with the Buffalo Bills on their heels at 6-2.

Verdict: Colts Win the Deadline

No team made a move as bold or as transformative as Indianapolis.

By landing Sauce Gardner, the Colts not only addressed a weakness but also cemented themselves as a team capable of making a deep postseason run.

When the dust settles, this might be the trade that turns Indy from good to great, and from contender to champion.
