Week 9 of the NFL season is officially here, and tonight we kick things off with the Baltimore Ravens vs the Miami Dolphins. It would be kind to say these two teams are underperforming preseason expectations. They both have just two wins this year, but are looking to keep their playoff hopes alive on Thursday.

Despite their combined four wins, there will be stars littered all over the field in this game, which means it has a ton of fantasy implications. Today, we’re breaking down the matchup and giving you our best starts and sits for this game.

Fantasy Breakdown

Before we get into the start, sit recommendations. Here’s a table breaking down how many points each team gives up to each position group, and where that ranks across the league.

Note: 32nd means they give up the most points. 1st means they give up the fewest points.

So what does this table mean?

Both of these defenses suck. There are great fantasy matchups across the board in this one, except for Ravens wide receivers, who face the Dolphins defense that (somehow) gives up the least fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. There are likely going to be a lot of fantasy points scored in this game.

Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson is the best start in fantasy this week in my book. He’s my No. 1 quarterback this week, and there are just a ton of reasons to start him. One, it’s his first week back from injury. He’s going to be fresh and ready to play some football, and he knows he’s going to have to score to keep the Ravens in this game. Second, he’s facing one of the worst defenses in football. Just a great combo for him this week.

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins

The other quarterback in this game, Tua Tagovailoa, is also a great start for this week. He’s coming off his best game of the season and faces a Ravens defense that gives up 20+ points to opposing quarterbacks. He may not have a massive game, but it should be good enough to score you 18+.

Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins

Another player who’s a great start this week is Jaylen Waddle. Ever since Tyreek Hill went down with an injury, Waddle has scored 15+ in all but one game. He’s been Tua Tagovailoa’s target, and now he’s facing a horrible Ravens defense. Big night incoming for Waddle.

Derrick Henry, RB, Baltimore Ravens

Derrick Henry started the year slowly, but has really picked things up over the past few weeks. Now he gets to face the Dolphins, who have one of the worst run defenses in football, and he gets his QB1 back, which should open some things up for him in the run game. I do worry Jackson could start taking some touchdown opportunities away from him, but it shouldn’t affect him too much.

De’Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins

The other star running back in this game, De’Von Achane, is one of the best stars of the week. He’s my No. 3 running back this week, behind only Christian McCaffrey and Jonathan Taylor. The Ravens’ run defense is also horrible, and the Dolphins’ offense runs through Achane. Expect him to break off a few big runs and get into the end zone at least once.

Mark Andrews, TE, Baltimore Ravens

Since all I’ve done is given you obvious starts, I’ll give you a bit of a sleeper, I think could have a big game. Mark Andrews has been pretty disappointing the last couple of seasons, but this week, he could have a big game. He’s facing one of the worst defenses in the league, and he’s always going to be a red zone threat. Don’t be surprised if we see a Mark Andrews touchdown on Thursday night.

Best Sits

Zay Flowers, WR, Baltimore Ravens

Let me start by saying I don’t think there’s anyone in this game that you need to sit because of the matchup. I think there’s going to be a lot of points in this game, and Zay Flowers could very well go off. However, I have to tell you to sit somebody, and the stats say if anyone’s going to struggle, it’s the Ravens’ receivers. I wouldn’t be afraid of starting Flowers, but if you have similar options with better matchups, maybe consider starting them.

Both defenses

This game should be high-scoring. Lamar Jackson is back to lead the Ravens against one of the worst defenses in the league. Miami’s offense found some rhythm last week, and now plays one of the worst defenses in the league. I doubt many of you were starting either defense anyway, but if you are, make a change while you still can.
