Does anybody love the theatrics more than Jones? He just pulled one of the most Jerry Jones moves of all time on Monday when he announced on Sirius XM that the Dallas Cowboys made a trade, but declined to say who they traded for. Now, fans are left to speculate who the newest Cowboy could be, but Jones did drop a little hint on the radio.

“Immediately, we will have him on the field, and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings.”

Obviously, nobody outside of the Cowboys’ building knows who they added, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make some very educated guesses. Their defense has been absolutely atrocious this year, so it would make sense for them to add someone on that side of the ball, but who could it be?

EssentiallySports’ Dallas Cowboys Insider Mike Fisher gave some insider notes and broke down 16 potential trade targets for the Cowboys earlier this week, so today, we’re going to try to identify which one of his targets may have came to fruition on Monday.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Miami Dolphins

One of the first names that comes to mind is Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The five-time Pro Bowler was publicly made available this week, and he would be a perfect fit in Dallas considering their issues in coverage and injuries on the backend. They have one safety on their roster who doesn’t have an injury designation, and that’s second-year safety Markquese Bell.

Fitzpatrick would step in and immediately provide a boost in the secondary. He’s still one of the best safeties in the league, and he wouldn’t just help them out this year, but for years to come. Plus, the Dolphins are almost certainly getting rid of him, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already been dealt.

Bradley Chubb, DE, Miami Dolphins

Sticking with the Dolphins, Bradley Chubb is another name that’s expected to be available at the deadline. Jerry Jones has hyped up his pass-rushing unit, but truth be told, it’s not all that great. They could certainly use some help in that department, considering they rank 25th in sacks per game and 19th in pass rush win rate.

Chubb wouldn’t cost all that much, and he’d provide them with another efficient pass rusher. In 177 pass rush snaps, Chubb has logged 21 pressures, 15 hurries and four sacks. He’s another guy who just makes a ton of sense for Dallas.

Joshua Williams, CB, Kansas City Chiefs

It’s not often that a Super Bowl contender is selling at the trade deadline, but the Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of contributors at the cornerback position, and if they can get a decent pick for their former fourth-rounder Joshua Williams, there’s nothing stopping them from shipping him to an NFC foe.

Williams was a pretty decent contributor in KC for three years, playing over 320 snaps in each of his first three years with the Chiefs, but he’s only seen 16 snaps this year. This wouldn’t be the biggest move for the Cowboys, but it’d give them a young, talented corner that could start right away in their secondary.

Logan Wilson, LB, Cincinnati Bengals

The Cowboys have struggled covering across the board, but especially at the linebacker position. Logan Wilson has asked out of Cincinnati, and Fisher and I believe Dallas would be a perfect landing spot for him. He doesn’t carry too much of a cap hit, and the Cowboys could use a veteran presence at the linebacker position. If he’s really available, which everyone seems to think he is, he could very well be the guy the Cowboys made a move for.

T’Vondre Sweat, DT, Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly shopping T’Vondre Sweat, their second-round pick from a couple of years ago. He’s a beast on the interior, but has struggled with some injuries early in his career. Still, depending on his price, this could be a great fit for Dallas. He played his college ball at Texas, and he’d help them fill a need next to Kenny Clark. That duo would be one of the best in football, and would help their run defense tremendously.

Riq Woolen, CB, Seattle Seahawks

This might be my favorite option for the Cowboys. Riq Woolen was one of the best young corners in football, but things have gone sour in Seattle, and now he’s a trade candidate. He’s got a Pro Bowl resume, he’s long and athletic, and it’s just time for a change of scenery. Not sure how much he’d cost, but he’d bring a ton of upside with him.

Trey Hendrickson, DE, Cincinnati Bengals

Now, if Jerry really wanted to do the funniest thing ever, he’d trade away a first-round pick for Trey Hendrickson to help fill the void that Micah Parsons left when Jerry traded him away. We’ve already discussed the Cowboys’ pass-rushing issues, and Hendrickson would obviously be a fit in Dallas. Fisher reported that the Cowboys did indeed make a call to Cincy, but admits it’s unlikely this deal gets done, considering it would likely be a one-year rental (unless Dallas wanted to pay him a lot of money, which they refused to do with Parsons).

Jermaine Johnson, DE, New York Jets

Jermaine Johnson was one of the best young pass rushers in the league in 2022 and 2023, but an injury in 2024 forced him to miss most of the season, and he’s been underperforming a bit this year. The New York Jets are likely to sell some of their stars at the deadline, and Johnson is one that Fisher thinks the Cowboys could target. He wouldn’t cost as much as Hendrickson, but he’d bring some much-needed youth and talent to the Cowboys’ edge rusher room.
