The situation of the head coaches in the NFL is under more scrutiny than ever. Many NFL coaches are losing their jobs, and the latest casualty was the Carolina Panthers’ coach Frank Reich. While the case of Reich still remains new, it is the Los Angeles Chargers’ coach Brandon Staley who is facing the spotlight now.

The Chargers have faced seven losses this season, and in most of them, they were close to winning. They lost to the Dolphins by two points, and against the Titans, the Cowboys, the Lions, and the Packers by three points. Their hopes for the playoffs ended in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens. As the season progresses, Coach Staley seems to be under pressure. And as per reports, he could be the next victim of firing after Reich.

According to a report by an NFL insider, Jordan Schultz, the Chargers coach Brandon Staley “has the hottest seat in the league following Frank Reich’s dismissal.” The insider highlighted that there could be several reasons, particularly three, for this circumstance.

Staley is facing intense scrutiny for the reasons that the team lacks consistent success in regular seasons. The second reason is that he has limited playoff experience. The third reason is the team’s poor defensive performance, which stands at the bottom 5, which was especially highlighted in a significant loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last time.

The Chargers have a disappointing 4-7 record, struggling in close games. Their offense is strong, but their defense keeps struggling on the field, ranking 32nd in yards allowed and tied for 24th in points allowed per game. This is unexpected considering Coach Staley’s expertise in defensive strategies.

The 62-year-old faced a similar fate for the second consecutive year, having been dismissed by the Indianapolis Colts the same month last year. Reflecting on his departure, fired coach Reich expressed disappointment saying, “There’s a heart-pounding disappointment in not hitting the marks that we needed to hit to keep this going and try to get it turned around. It hurts me for the guys, the team, the coaches, and the fans.
