Packers RB Josh Jacobs’ story stands out as an inspiration for millions. After his parents’ divorce when he was very young, there were large stretches of time when he was homeless. He lived in a car with his brothers and dad. They even looked for hotels and motels that had free breakfast service. It wasn’t until he went to college that he had an actual bed. Even then, for the first few months, he used to sleep on the floor. Learning about his story, his friends nudged him to share it with the world so others in similar situations could find inspiration through his struggles. He always dreamed of being a football player, but it was in his junior year that he finally got serious.
At the University of Alabama, he was studying business management and pre-law. As he puts it, “I never thought that the NFL was a reality for me.” It was his former players and coaches who convinced him of his own potential to be a “first-round grade.” He didn’t get many chances to shine back then, but everybody knew he was destined to be great. So back in 2019, when the Raiders drafted him with their first-round pick, it finally looked like things were turning around. In his Week 1 debut, he left no doubts about where he belongs. He rushed 23 times for 85 yards and even had two TDs and a pass catch. But after 5 smashing seasons, when he entered free agency, the narratives weren’t painting him in the best light. But now, he has finally opened up about how it all went down.
On the podcast, Bussin with the Boys Josh Jacobs talked about why he left the Raiders. He also cleared his stance on Raiders owner Mark Davis and talked about the bigger problems he faced: the ever-changing coaches. Jacobs said, “I have a great relationship with Mark Davis. It has nothing to do with Mark Davis. But like you bringing in these coaches every other year, new coaches. And it’s like now these new coaches is telling me I didn’t already have three 1,000-yard seasons. You’re telling me I got to prove myself like I’m a rookie. You treating me like a rookie. And then we start losing and then you feel like you need me and then you play me. I’ll play good, but then afterwards you basically like, ‘Yeah, you play good, but we’re going to franchise tag’.”

In April 2022, the Raiders announced they weren’t picking up Jacobs’ fifth-year option. In 2023, they put the franchise tag on him. But he never wanted to leave. On the podcast, he added, “I didn’t want them to take the fifth-year option because I knew I was going to get paid more than that. I wanted them to pay me. When it comes to the Raiders, it really hurt my heart. I did everything in my power to stay.” He told the Raiders there were 6 other teams looking to sign him with more than the $10M he was getting. Jacobs asked if they could match it, if they could meet in the middle; he even asked if incentives were possible. But for the Raiders, the answers were all “no.” And Jacobs’ stance? “We ain’t got nothing to talk about. Y’all let me know where I stand.”
It was in the ‘24 season that the Packers gave him a 4-year, $48M contract. And as he moved to Wisconsin, there was nothing holding him back. Not the Raiders, certainly, and not even the dream home of the once homeless kid.
Josh Jacobs’ dream mansion up for sale for $6M
After his deal with the Packers went through, Josh Jacobs listed his dream home for sale. And it was really hard for him too. On the podcast, he says, “I spent a lot of money on a house I fully custom built and never stayed in- you got to know I was investing there. I was doing franchises—I’m doing work in the community. Everything like, I’m thinking, like, okay, like this is where I’m going to be.” Back in 2021, Jacobs spent a massive $750,000 for the property and started building his ‘dream home.’ He completed it in 2023. Ironically, 2023 was also the year when the Raiders put the franchise tag on him. And now, the former Raiders’ RB’s house is up for grabs for a deal of just around $6M.
