The upcoming 2024 season is looking difficult for the Raiders’ quarterback. Jimmy Garoppolo has been under fire by the NFL and currently faces suspension under the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy, as per ESPN. Not only will the Las Vegas Raiders‘ QB be missing his first two games when the season starts, but he might also have some financial complications coming his way.

Garoppolo has a $11.25 million salary contract with the Raiders currently. But this amount, along with his position on the team, might be in danger after the news broke out of his being found guilty of violating the NFL’s policy. Moreover, it is reported that Garoppolo has decided not to appeal the suspension. This decision has catalyzed several reports of the quarterback being released from the Raiders.

After Garoppolo was awarded a suspension for using “prescribed medication despite not having a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption,” a serious question mark is posed at the quarterback’s career in the Raiders. According to ESPN, the Las Vegas Raiders might release Garoppolo from the team, and the quarterback has decided not to plead the decision.

Amid rumors of losing his spot in the Raiders, Garoppolo might suffer a financial shock on top of that as well. It is reported that the quarterback can be released in mid-March before he is up for an $11.25 million bonus. His guaranteed base salary could also be nullified, irrespective of his presence on the team.

The veteran quarterback joined the Las Vegas Raiders before the 2023 season through a contract for three years. Garoppolo signed the $72.75 million deal in the presence of the head coach and general manager, who are no longer a part of the team. HC Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler were fired in 2023,  and this leaves the Raiders with “no connection or commitment to Garoppolo,” according to Adam Schefter.

The 32-year-old had a mediocre season with the Raiders, achieving seven touchdowns, 1205 yards, 9 interceptions, and 65.1% completed passes. The quarterback’s repeated injuries further hampered his play. Before he joined the Raiders, Garoppolo spent some time in San Francisco and showcased a comparatively better performance with the 49ers, than last season. His 2022 season stats during his time in the 49ers include 16 touchdowns, 2437 yards, and 207 completed passes, according to NFL.
