“He has traits that you can’t teach… sky is the limit for that kid – even higher than the sky,” Giants tackle Jermaine Eluemunor said about rookie Abdul Carter. After a disappointing 2024 season, the Giants are determined to bounce back this year. And linebacker Carter could play a key role in making that happen. After all, he showed exceptional skills throughout training camp and preseason practices. During the Giants’ latest practice session, he even caught the attention of opposing teams and players. While one side of the joint practice turned problematic, Carter made sure to shine on the other, and that caught the attention of Aaron Glenn.
It was during the Jets vs. Giants practice before the preseason game. And both the Jets players and coaches got a glimpse of Carter’s abilities. On the defense side, Abdul Carter appeared confident. Jets coach Aaron Glenn was clearly impressed. Speaking of the rookie, he said, Carter was a “grown man.” “So nothing out of the ordinary – we all know that…He’s a damn good player, we all know that, and he’s gonna make some plays in this league,” he said.
It’s not every day that Jets’ coach Glenn goes on to publicly admire a player from their cross-town rivals’ team. And it wasn’t just the coach who was awestruck. Even Jets quarterback Justin Fields took notice of Abdul Carter and the Giants’ impressive fight. After the game, he took some time to admire the players. He praised Brian Burns and even labeled Dexter Lawrence as a “menace.” The Giants players have also praised the team’s defense.

Lawrence added that during the last few weeks before the season begins, the team will keep “progressing.” As he said, the team will need to keep up and maintain the momentum to be a contender in the 2025 season. As of Carter, he has continued to garner praise from his team and the rival players, too. “I think they’re really good. Abdul — he’s good, too. He can move around a lot. . . They’re going to be really good up front” Fields said after getting sacked by Carter.
Abdul Carter has been turning heads all camp, showing flashes of pure dominance in practice. That momentum carried into the Giants’ preseason opener, where he made an impact on every snap, racking up three pressures in just three plays.

No wonder the Giants’ top priority was to acquire the player during the 2025 NFL draft. The Giants took him as the third pick, adding him to a defensive line already loaded with talent. So far, he’s lived up to every bit of the hype in camp. It will be exciting to see what he’ll do once the real games start. But before that, the Jets must face him in the preseason. And well, Carter wasn’t the only one making noise during this joint practice. Something else happened that turned heads in the session.
Besides Abdul Carter’s dominance, an unexpected brawl took place at practice
There was an unexpected scuffle during an already heated scene, with the cross-rival teams going against each other. It elevated when running back Tyrone Tracy was tackled to the ground by Will McDonald. It wasn’t a pleasant sight for the Giants’ offense, and guard Greg Van Roten wasn’t pleased with what happened.

In some training camp sessions, the Jets allow full tackles to the ground, while the Giants do not. As unexpected as it was, Van Roten got tangled with McDonald. Things escalated further when rookie Marcus Mbow jumped into the chaos. The rookie was seen throwing punches before being pulled away by his teammates.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Jon Runyan Jr. and Qwan’tez Stiggers nearly got into a fight with their fists up. Stiggers even ripped off Runyan’s helmet. The situation didn’t escalate further thanks to Russell Wilson, Aaron Stinnie, and other players who stepped in. The other players separated the two before things went too far. The chaos lasted for about a full minute before it was finally stopped. The two teams will face each other at the preseason matchup on Aug 16.
