The New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson’s weekend spotlight wasn’t on the football field but on Instagram, where he rallied behind Team USA at the Ryder Cup. He shared an Instagram story featuring three American flags, a bold “GO Team USA!” message. But this story also doubled as a subtle marketing push.

Wilson’s support for the national team came with a reel posted by his Good Man Brand, showcasing their Legend London Golf Shoe.

In the Instagram story, Wilson also tagged his brand with “@goodmanbrand Golf”, complete with two white shoe emojis. Crafted with nappa leather and a partially recycled foam footbed, the shoe reflects Wilson’s business acumen and style, reinforcing his growing footprint off the field amid the NFL season’s pressures.

Back by popular demand, Wilson timed the shoe’s return with the Ryder Cup, tying sport, lifestyle, and environmental awareness together. Since its 2016 launch, Good Man Brand has grown from apparel into high-end footwear, with 3% of sales funding the Why Not You Foundation to support youth empowerment.

Priced at $258, the Legend London Golf Shoe enters the competitive market dominated by legacy brands like Adidas, Nike, and FootJoy. Additionally, Wilson’s focus on style and values targets consumers seeking luxury with conscience.

But while Wilson’s Instagram shows his expanding identity, the Giants’ quarterback situation contrasts sharply.

Off the field, Wilson’s carving out a bigger stage for his brand. But back on the gridiron, the front office’s decision has taken away his spotlight.

The Giants bench Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson entered the 2025 season with a clear vote of confidence from Giants head coach Brian Daboll. But that narrative has shifted since then following an uneven performance so far. Wilson’s classic Moon Balls have certainly been a highlight.

But the quarterback posted a 45.9% completion rate vs. the Washington Commanders, and a 56.2% against the Kansas City Chiefs. The only time he has drawn comparisons to his Super Bowl form was against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2. But going 0-3 into Week 4, something had to change for the Giants.

Coach Daboll made the call to bench Wilson in favor of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. While he avoided talking about the ‘why’ of the change, he clarified it was solely his decision. As Dart Now takes center stage, questions surround his readiness to play. But Coach Daboll has answered that as well.

“I don’t think any rookie quarterback is ever just ‘ready to play,’” Daboll noted. “You put him in there because you think he’s done enough to show you that he can go out there and compete. And he’s done that every step of the way.”

So, for now, the QB depth has Jaxson placed at the top as QB1, Russ at the backup, and Jameis Winston as the third-string quarterback. But Wilson’s not worried.

Despite losing his starting job, Wilson has shown determination to be a part of the Big Blue.

As he noted recently, “I’m focused on helping this team win. I’m focused on helping Jaxson. I’m not giving up on us in this season.” Wilson shut down any questions surrounding a trade or release, committing himself to developing the team from the sidelines.

As the Giants now look forward to taking on the Los Angeles Chargers, the spotlight shines on Jaxson Dart, but Wilson’s story is far from over.
