Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll came under fire after entering the medical tent during rookie Jaxson Dart’s concussion check in Week 6. Though Dart led a win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the move sparked criticism and league fines, with some questioning whether Daboll put the rookie’s safety at risk.

Adding to the scrutiny, analyst Chris Simms, son of Giants legend Phil Simms, offered a blistering take on Daboll’s mindset during the November 13 Dan Patrick Show.
“We got to win this one, or I (Daboll) might get fired. I’m gonna ruin the rookie quarterback’s career today and run him up the middle 75 times, but I want to win and keep my job,” Chris said.

Entering the medical tent during a concussion check is not allowed, but Daboll did it while Dart, who hurt his neck on a second-quarter sack, was being checked. Dart went back in for a few plays before doctors confirmed he had a concussion and pulled him out.
If he had kept playing, it could have caused a serious safety scandal. Reports also say Dart’s career might be in danger because of how bad the injury was and how physically he plays.
The controversy only added to growing concerns about Daboll’s leadership and sideline behavior.

The 50-year-old finished his four-season run with a 20-40-1 record. In 2022, fans loved his energy, he won Coach of the Year and helped the Giants win their first playoff game since 2012. But over time, that intensity, once seen as a strength, started to show up in troubling ways.
He once threw a tablet at Daniel Jones and was seen yelling at defensive coordinator Wink Martindale during a 2023 loss to the Cowboys.

GM Joe Schoen even listened to Daboll’s headset at times to make sure he communicated clearly with his staff. This year, the problems persisted.
One player told ESPN that Daboll yelled at offensive coordinator Mike Kafka after tight end Theo Johnson dropped a key pass against the Eagles. The team denied that Daboll had threatened Kafka’s play-calling duties. But Daboll took playcalling from Kafka in 2023 and again in 2024 until owner John Mara stepped in and told him to give it back.

The Giants blew four double-digit road leads this season and started 2-8. Their collapse in week 10 against the Chicago Bears became the ultimate breaking point. They gave up a 10-point lead in the last four minutes, and Dart left the game with a concussion. Simms was amazed to see the rookie coming back.
“Even last week, he gets concussed, and then he comes and plays two plays, and then somebody with some brains went, wait, that guy’s brain’s not working functionally here. Let’s get him out of the football game,” he added.
Daboll needed wins this season. His job was in danger as far back as last year. Mara warned him that the team needed major improvement for him to keep his job. Now, he is out.

However, given the experience he had, analysts believe he might head to college soon.

Penn State started the season well. They won their first three games, including a shutout win over FIU. But then they struggled and lost six games in a row. Because of this, the school fired longtime head coach James Franklin in the middle of the season. They made Terry Smith the interim head coach, but they still need a full-time leader.
So ex-NFLer A.Q. Shipley made a bold prediction.
“If you can hire a guy who worked with Nick Saban and Bill Belichick, was Alabama’s offensive coordinator, and has been an NFL head coach, that’s a big deal. He’s very good on offense. We haven’t had a strong offense in 20 or 30 years,” he said on The Pat McAfee Show on November 12.
The rumors began with one simple thing. Brian Daboll wore a Penn State hoodie in his first appearance since being fired. The hoodie surprised fans and started rumors that Penn State might want him as their next head coach. His son Christian used to work at the school, which explains the connection, but the rumor still grew fast.
For now, nothing is certain. Things are pretty wild!
