Things are looking bad for quarterback Russell Wilson. With more than 2 minutes left on the clock, Wilson had a chance on the 4th down, but he threw the ball completely out of the end zone. The ball went beyond the goal line without being caught by a receiver. That gave the possession back to the Chiefs with no chance at points, turning it into a costly mistake for the Giants, trailing 13 points at that time. Dov Kleiman just shared a snippet of the play on X and wrote, “Bench Russell Wilson… This is just AWFUL.”

Soon, fans and netizens began to criticize the QB, urging the Giants to bench Wilson. “Russell Wilson just threw the ball away 4 times in a row in the red zone… that includes 4th down, he threw the ball at the uprights on 4th down when he’s down by 13 points to the Chiefs with 2 minutes left in the game. Get that MF on the bench,” one netizen wrote. Now, for those on the sidelines who watched the horror live, this isn’t a surprise.

Boos to bench the veteran QB began during the game. Fans called for the quarterback to be benched after Wilson threw his second interception with the score tied 6-6 and only a few minutes remaining in the first half. Soon, chants of “We want (Jaxson) Dart!” quickly filled the stadium. On the other hand, coach Brian Daboll isn’t surprised by the boos, too.

When you don’t convert on third down, it’s hard to sustain anything,” coach Daboll said. He further added, “On offense, nothing was good enough. I would be booing too.” So, as expected, after the game, he was asked the same question as back in Week 1. Who will be the starter in the next game? Will quarterback Jaxson Dart finally get the chance? But just like the last time, he refused to answer.

Dart had three snaps during the game. However, all those were handoffs. For the rookie, his focus is on the game and improvement. “Any time he’s coming off on the sideline, I like to just kind of listen to know what he has to say, to know what his perspective is on things,” he said.

Later, Wilson was also asked about the boos and their impact on him. He explained, “Yeah, there are highs and lows and always tough moments. You know, you got to have thick skin, you know what I mean?” He added, “You got to be able to know who you are, the player that you are, know what you’re capable of.” But patience might not work here, as Giants fans are growing frustrated with each mistake made by Wilson.

Fans are upset over Russell Wilson’s mistakes and call for his benching

One netizen suggested, “When the Giants bench Russell Wilson they will be able to play like a real NFL team.” Wilson may not have been impressive in Week 1, which also drew many questions about whether the coach would consider Dart to take over as the starter in Week 2. However, the coach stuck to his decision and showed faith in Wilson. And the veteran QB did keep up in Week 2, even though he couldn’t lead the Giants to a win against the Cowboys. He threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns.

Has Russell Wilson lost his magic, or is this just a temporary slump in his career?

But Wilson was nowhere close to that in Week 3. He completed 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards, throwing no touchdowns and two interceptions against the Chiefs. Hence, another frustrated netizen pointed out Wilson’s mistakes from the game and wrote, “Russell Wilson throws the ball out of end Zone on 4th down. This guys is dumb as f—. Only a complete idiot would do that. 99% sure either he is permanently concussed or his mom threw him on the floor every day whe. He was a baby. No fu–en excuse. It’s 4th down. They need to put this in contracts. Lose 1 season of pay if you deemed to do anything stupid.”

That’s a lot of frustration, for sure. There were several mistakes on the Chiefs’ end, too. However, Wilson’s mistakes garnered attention. The crowd’s boos peaked in the fourth quarter as the Giants entered the red zone but failed to score due to Wilson’s poor passes. “Game on the line…you can score, make a stop and potentially win but Russell Wilson throws it to the cotton candy man,” one wrote. Fans wanted rookie Dart to take over, yet coach Brian Daboll kept Wilson and the starters on the field.

Many questioned Wilson’s decision during the game. One wrote, “The #Giants & Russell Wilson have targeted Malik Nabers, their all-world receiver, six times. He has one catch for four yards. Nabers has never finished a game with fewer than four catches or 41 yards. This would also be the fewest targets for him in a game. Previous low in targets was seven. That game the first game of his NFL career.”

Wide receiver Malik Nabers had no catches on two targets in the first half and finished with a career-low two receptions for 13 yards. On the other hand, wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson was also held scoreless until catching one pass late in the game. Wilson threw three passes to the space where no receiver was around him. On third and goal, he threw the ball out of the end zone.

THE #GIANTS CALLED A QB DRAW WITH 36-YEAR-OLD RUSSELL WILSON ON 2ND AND GOAL FROM A MILE AWAY. With the game on the line — New York ran one of the dumbest play calls you’ll ever see. Purely idiotic,” one wrote about the veteran QB. Fans’ sentiments are clearly hurt. It depends upon the coach as to whether Wilson will lead the offense or Dart takes over. But the question remains the same on whether the Giants will be able to overcome the 0-3 start.
