The New York Giants didn’t just lose in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles. They lost one of their most dominant offensive pieces of the season in the process. After a brutal ankle injury, Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo was carted off the field. Post-game, his teammates all shared words of encouragement, prayer, and expressed despair for their teammate. Watching a clip of them all, Skattebo resurfaced on social media once again with a quick message.

Sharing the clip of his teammates on his Instagram Story, Skattebo had just five words in the face of all the love and support: “My guys love tall boys ❤”
Skattebo’s brutal injury occurred with 8:10 left in the second quarter as the Giants attempted to close the gap on a 14-7 Eagles’ lead. Starting quarterback Jaxson Dart tried to aim a pass at Skattebo, but the running back got tackled by Eagles’ linebacker Zack Baun. As Skattebo fell on the field, his right ankle dislocated. The entire team gathered on the field around him while Dart looked visibly frustrated at the sight of his most trusted partner of the season. The Giants tried to spark the offense without their rising rookie, but the energy in the huddle had shifted, and the Giants lost 38-20.

Skattebo, meanwhile, was rushed to a local hospital. Before his horrific injury, he’d rushed for 12 yards, and had a receiving touchdown for 18 yards. Skattebo had absolutely dominated in the Giants’ Week 6 clash against the Eagles, and before his injury, it looked like Week 8 would have similar fireworks.
Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo had just started to solidify themselves as the cornerstones of the rejuvenated Giants’ offense. Skattebo’s wild, untamed energy was a pivotal factor for the team both on and off the field. But now, the Giants face the rest of the season without their star. Skattebo, on the other hand, faces a long road to recovery.

Cam Skattebo’s injury update
Shortly after the injury, Dr. Jesse Morse had taken to X to share an initial injury analysis. As Morse noted, “Realistically, we are looking at season-ending, and potentially requiring one, maybe two surgeries depending on specifics. – these are awful injuries. These are very hard to come back from.” While Dr. Morse hoped for a full recovery, he also cautioned that a second surgery or further injury setbacks once Skattebo’s back could only complicate his career trajectory further. But the verdict across the league was clear: Cam Skattebo is out for the rest of the 2025 season.

But Ian Rapoport recently took to X to share more details on Skattebo’s injury, and sounded cautiously optimistic.
“They took him immediately to a local hospital in the Philadelphia area and had surgery last night to repair that ankle. Now, the reason to do that is to make sure that it is set properly, to make sure that there are no infections and complications. It is out of an abundance of caution, but also something you do it when you have to. Hope everything is okay for Skattebo. If all is good and clean and the surgery went as well as everyone believes, then he should be back with no issues for the next year.”

For now, the Giants have to prepare for their Week 9 battle with the San Francisco 49ers. The Giants are 2-6, and on a two-game losing streak. Skattebo had been the rushing leader for the team for six straight games since Week 2. With him gone, Week 8 saw Tyrone Tracy Jr. step up with 39 rushing yards. Without their most expressive and dominant running back, will they be able to break that streak and get more wins as the season progresses? We wait for that answer, along with more updates on Cam Skattebo’s recovery.
