There’s plenty of time left, and one of the better defenses in the NFL that will probably get us a stop, and who knows, maybe we’ll go down and score. We’re at least in striking distance…it definitely hurt,” he said.

Darius Slayton’s comments came from a post shared by SNY Giants on X. His tone clearly showed how frustrated the athlete was, and can we blame him? Losing a 68-yard touchdown in the blink of an eye is wicked, especially when your team is trailing. Moreover, the Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll was also livid at what just happened, much like Darius. 

In a clip shared by Fox Sports: NFL, the boss looks downright upset on the sidelines after the referee threw the flag. He’s shouting in disbelief and making hand gestures while brushing off the decision. Let’s rewind to the ugly moment that changed the tone of the game big time. 

By the fourth quarter, New York was down 31-13 when Darius Slayton hauled in a deep 68-yard throw from Jaxson Dart. The fans started celebrating the move that could have easily reduced the Eagles ‘ lead by two points. However, the flag came, and the Giants’ WR was called for offensive pass interference.

In fact, some officials even claimed that he pushed cornerback Quinyon Mitchell to gain separation. But replays showed that it was nothing more than just typical hand-fighting between the two. Another angle showed Mitchell grabbing Slayton’s hand first. Well, the fight was over, and the Eagles won eventually. 

This wasn’t the first time the NFL had delivered a questionable penalty. Here’s a look at what happened with the New England Patriots earlier this month.

Soon, New England lost its TD and was pushed back by 10 yards. The worst part? Stefon Diggs assessed the penalty, but he wasn’t even near where Douglas caught the ball. The replay footage showed almost no contact between Diggs and defensive back Kool-Aid McKinstry. According to commentators Spero Dedes and Adam Archuleta, it wasn’t worthy of a penalty. 

Similarly, fans were in sheer confusion about what appeared to be a horrible call. It was one of the sloppiest rulings of the season so far, and the NFL had to speak up. Now, the league had recorded another controversial judgment. The only difference? The Patriots emerged victorious against the Saints, but the Giants lost by a big margin. Their comeback hopes were already faint, but the nasty call sealed their fate for good.
